I don't think the SC2 situation will happen to the FGC, but the next few years will be tough in places like Brazil where majors there will now have to compete with Evo. Even LIV Golf is imploding, it's more of a question on how the FGC will exit this period.

I'm Portuguese, we've been clamoring for any sort of representation in fight games. They add fucking Ronaldo and everyone was still "yeah, nope"

For sure. There's a lot of games with decently sizable communities that don't get a shout as often as they probably should, now they can. The reverse is also true: COTW here died incredibly fast, so new games shouldn't just coast to a spot because they're new.

Eventually when they start pulling out of some of the side investments, the FGC stuff will probably be one of the first things to go, and hopefully there will be other events to fill up the void.

Saudi PIF money will eventually run out (they have reportedly not paid wages to some of their clubs in the Saudi league) and they will have to refocus eventually. They have a lot of money, but to buy out EA they still are choosing to go with a leveraged buyout.

I think overall I am (perhaps strangely to some) hopeful of the future of the FGC: we just need to keep doing what we've done for decades up to this point. The only difference is that we're now no longer anchored to what EVO is doing.

This might come off as biased, but Climax of Night started out with less than 200 people and there were 1,000+ of us in the building when it wrapped up last year. Several of us were bawling our eyes out.

There is so much that can still be done without EVO that will matter to a whole lot of people.

my theory is that there's rights issues with the Fighting Layer cast, except for Allen and Blair, because none of them are in FEXL. maybe it's because Namco published the game. I sort of remember Arika saying they couldn't name the game Fighting Layer EX due to rights issues...
