The Tyee is proud to have published this important investigation by @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. We condemn this egregious harassment of a journalist for doing her job, and have offered support as she deals with this disturbing situation.
Showing the sitting mayor of Canadaβs third largest city a printout of an offensive AI slop image to confirm whether thatβs the image he saw that led him to accuse a councillor of a crime, is possibly the weirdest thing Iβve ever done at work. And I once wrote about a merkin art exhibit.
Within this story from @kehyslop.bsky.social and @jenstden.bsky.social: Former Green councillor Adrianne Carr says she resigned in 2025 in part because of remarks Sim made to her during an in-camera meeting

I love this essay by @dorothywoodend.bsky.social from @thetyee.ca's Weekender on what shows like this can do: provide some indication of a better way to be. thetyee.ca/Culture/2026...
Well, I just explained labour strugs and billionaire ridiculousness re: Amazon to an eight-year-old so there's that
Thanks so much for reading, Robert! :)
Props to Jen who sits across from me at @thetyee.ca and would let me voice my frustration when, yet again, I was rebuffed when trying to access non-fatal overdose numbers at health care facilities.
She sat through seven months of it.
We need this hopefulness! βοΈ

"Only one journalist was on the ground as the incident unfolded. Trent Ernst, who runs Tumbler RidgeLines, spent Tuesday afternoon trying to inform locals about what police had described as an active shooter situation."

The third worst mass shooting in Canadian history happened yesterday in a small BC town. Kids are dead, a community is reeling. This is a time to grieve. This is not a time to gain political points by punching down on trans people.
Thoughtful @melwoods.me essay:

Also, posted these on my site, but posting here, mostly in case media wants to use. Dear media: Rights are as such: I know I am the local reporter but I have been so tied up with media requests and trying to get information out to community, I havenβt been outside in eight hours, so these are the images I have. Everything I know I have posted to my lives on Facebook and later, YouTube. If you want to grab stuff thatβs okay, but we are a community funded newspaper. You can use any of this information, if, and only if you pinky promise to make a donation. We have a patreon site, https://www.patreon.com/c/tumblerridgelines I donβt have an easy way for one time donations, but I have this: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/204606215-Can-I-make-a-one-time-payment Images are : A group of worried parents gather outside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School as RCMP investigate inside. The students were soon sent to the nearby community centre to shelter in place there. And RCMP take up position outside a home on Fellers, where two additional bodies were found.
A message from Trent Ernst, the only reporter who lives in Tumbler Ridge
A salmon-coloured building in a town square with a big, blue sky beyond.
Tumber Ridge is not just idyllic but resilient.
It has seen mines open and close and reopen. It has embraced wind energy, made unprecedented dinosaur discoveries, hosts epic adventures and reinvented itself through tourism.
Thinking of everyone there as the town faces the unimaginable days ahead.
Got back from rink to see the news. Terrible. Lillooet is the size of Tumblr Ridge. You do not know everybody in town. But if your kid goes to school, they know every kid within two or three grades of them very well. Every year, the same kids are in class with each other. Can't imagine the pain.
Disgusted by the level of anti-trans misinformation already spreading about the shooting in Tumbler Ridge.
I wrote about it after Charlie Kirk in September, and I hate that Iβm probably going to have to write about it tomorrow

Many Black seniors are hesitant to βrock the boatβ due to fear theyβll be punished, said community development practitioner Elvenia Gray-Sandiford.
But their experiences arenβt measured, and, without data, things wonβt change.
Gray-Sandifordβs got a plan to tackle that.
Hopefully Franciscoβs lawyer can delay his deportation long enough for the health industry to be shamed into providing care, or he gets MSP coverage. He can pay out of pocket for care but itβs $$$. Hereβs a fundraiser going to help cover his medical/ legal/ rent for a bit
