Beware polemicists, especially when you agree with something they say.
Don't look up what James Howard Kunstler is up to today.
Your blood pressure will thank you.
Isn't this just DAT?
Well, yeah, it's on the side of a mountain towards the end of winter, what did you expect?
Honestly, it just hit me that subway exits are also the perfect place for them.
Random thought for wayfinding in non-grid cities: a compass rose on every corner
I really want to see a game in the Tokyo Dome one day.
I can't justify it, per se. It's not a pretty stadium, and the energy, while amazing, is pretty high in all of NPB.
Maybe I just have a thing for air structures; I took a pilgrimage to make sure I took in a game at the Metrodome its last year.

Little touches like this are such an easy win for transit agencies.
Always find it amazing to look back and realize how, over its long life, the Brooklyn Bridge has been continually retrofitted to carry less and less capacity.
I mean, deindustrialization has been going on for at least fifty years, so I think it's fair game at this point...

On crack?
Don't get me wrong; it's evocative writing. Just... too evocative of this moment.
I just read the phrase "...LinkedIn guy in a TikTok world" and now I want to go walk into the sea.
Saying no to change has been the biggest disaster to urban planning since the invention of car dependence itself.
Responsible planning must find ways to accommodate all the growth there's demand for. Not a convenient amount of it. All of it.
Given this federal government, this is recipe for getting nothing done.
It's surprisingly conservative.
This is very true to my life, maybe because I *know* I can't function with constant notifications, distractions, and the like.
I need to create structures to allow me to work, relax, etc.
This is a great map and resource, and holy crap do we have a lot of these.

As member of the Nominations Team, I'm over the moon to share that The Fox And The City has been invited to join the 11th global Resorts and Retreats Awards, by the hosts at LUXlife! Our team works hard to identify those who transform stays into stories and properties into sanctuaries, and this year your work stood out. 🪷🌿 Please confirm below if you're happy to be nominated (or just hit reply if preferred)!
Wow, I never new my website of urbanism writing would be considered for an award, let alone one for Resorts and Retreats!
It's an honor and I don't know how to respond.
I'm being very cynical here and should have led with the good news:

This is a great decision—and should have always been no brainer. Urban highway expansions have no place in the 21st Century.
All too often, structural replacements are used as opportunities for hidden widening.
Congrats to all who fought this!
As you should! I'm having a down day and being incredibly cynical which is blinding me a bit I think
It's not great that
a) replacing a bridge is the "largest single project" undertaken by a public authority (so it's more than say, building the entire turnpike in the first place?) and
b) we celebrate these massive price increases not for what they do but simply because they are expensive.
