Imo: when grits are good they're amazing and when they're bad they're awful, just a huge range. Polenta is always somewhere in the middle, sometimes it's really good, sometimes it's okay, but it's never as good or as bad as grits can be

I see flavors of this argument a lot, see also: holding Dems and GOP to different standards. My problem with it comes down to who you're trying to convince with your argument. Anyone that would have been convinced by empathy has already done, so what good are you doing preaching to the choir?
Being generous, I think at least part of this is anyone who would be convinced by empathy-based arguments doesn't need them, we're all already there. This is about getting enough of everyone else to also care, whether or not they should care already
Anyway GenAI is dumb in almost all use cases. I'm not a hardliner on the whole concept, it's just that except for a few niche cases they're unethically made pieces of shit, and also kind of my whole thing is more humans making more art and not the other way around. Art is hard! That's not bad!
Imagination without visualization is hard to explain, it's like...I am taking what I see with my eyes and interpreting it through a filter of deep knowledge to understand how my camera is going to "see" it instead. But it feels more like a sense than just knowing facts, if that makes any sense
Funny story the aphantasia is why I was initially so drawn to the camera as a way to express myself, I thought since I could see the frame in front of me I didn't need any imagination. Didn't understand how wrong that was, nor that I could learn how to do it without visualizations
Fun fact I have near total aphantasia, and my drawing skills are pathetic, and yet some of the best work I have ever done involved me storyboarding with stick figures to help me pre-visualize the composition and lighting
I am loving this incredible book and learning so much, but this line expresses an idea I am rapidly developing a chip on my shoulder about. Art and Science is a false binary, music is math, photography is physics and chemistry, and engineering is an inherently creative pursuit, goddammit
We get keys on Tuesday, with the big move on the 28th. That gives me two weeks to do the prep and initial buildout for the darkroom. I need to build a stand for the sink, and an 8 foot work table, paint the walls black, and cover the floor. Then I can make art like this every day
brb going to get lost in the desert
Surgery consult for my hernia is on Tuesday, hopefully they can schedule it pretty quick, because this thing sucks and I am already over it. 0 stars, do not recommend
I genuinely don't know what we do about our government committing international war crimes, we aren't subject to the ICC. Everyone is screaming for future accountability, but what's the actual mechanism here?
Irans best and only play right now is to make this as expensive and unpopular as they can, by dragging as many other countries into the conflict as they can, and we're 100% taking the bait and broadening the conflict
Healy has got to go
The Photographer's Toning Book by Tim Rudman
I have wanted this out of print book for a while now, thanks ebay
Fully nude in 15 degree weather for this abandoned church shoot, absolute madness.
Finally caught up on burlesque dancer photos and boudoir photos, now I just have a band and a baby left to edit, and in another week I'll be in Houston for more dancers and butts. It's a good life, honestly
The moon going from full moon to a red moon and starting to go back to a normal full moon, then my camera battery door fell off.
Here's my first edit on the March 3rd Lunar Eclipse. 15 moon shots, 1 foreground. Taken over a 3 hourish period.
Most exciting is the room shares a wall with a bathroom, so our contractor says getting running water and a drain should be pretty easy, though I'm waiting on a quote to see how much easy means in dollars. But if I can have a 4 foot sink in there, game changer
From jump I'll be able to print up to 11x14. By the end it'll be 20x24, plus archival inkjet for color work and digital negatives up to 17x22, and platinum prints up to 17x22 as well. Also framing, but I quite literally might need to do that on the floor
Distracting myself from the hernia by mapping out my near-future darkroom. It'll be easy to make everything I already have fit and get up and running, but by the time I'm end-game it's gonna be a tight fit, but there's space for everything
Went to urgent care because the pain got worse and confirmed a hernia, ultrasound on Thursday will determine if I need surgery or not. In the mean time, if it gets worse again I get to go to the ER instead, woo
Doc appointment on Thursday to confirm but I think I have a hernia, oww. Pain isn't severe but is pretty constant, if it gets worse I'll go to urgent care, ugh.
A pregnant woman in a white dress stands barefoot in the rubble of a corner of an abandoned church, the roof and windows missing
Just need to pull this one out to post it on it's own, I adore the lighting here
How's this for a maternity shoot?
The animation care of Fiverr at the end really sells it
Photo of a black and white print of a nude woman leaning against a window overlooking Lake Michigan in Chicago. The slight color cast comes from the selenium and gold toning, which also fix the image to last for centuries without fading. Printed on really nice fine art paper
Getting so excited and impatient for this darkroom to get set up. Found an easel yesterday, ordered chems, and have the last few little odds and ends sitting in a cart ready to order once I'm moved in.
Photo is from a boudoir shoot in chicago done on film, toned in selenium and gold
It's like if a cream puff was a cake! I followed this recipe, highly recommend! cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1027...
Bbs first karpatka, held up next to the window to get the good light
Lol kay, blocked for intellectual dishonesty
