im not denying that VNs are rooted in porn bc well… they are, and it’d be disingenuous to say they’re not!

i think it applies to any parody actually. you fundamentally need to like the genre you're parodying at least a little to actually create a good parody that isn't just beating down on the source material because you dislike it

lowkey i kind of wonder how much some of the anti VN sentiment is rooted in anti-intellectualism... considering the main draw of the genre is to Read and ppl for some reason take issue with that

now that i've been reading VNs recently i'm more convinced than ever that if you're gonna attempt to make a parody VN you need to have at least a little love for the genre instead of making it out of contempt
