Plus, giving your music to these communities for free is awesome! It cultivates good will, and gives you a great base of fans to help spread the word with you. Some of them *will* pay you down the line, if you give them a way to.
Even if you make $0 on selling your music, the act of a listener [β¦]
Sure, people can discover me through Spotify because I have a few releases still up there, it's free (but bad) marketing. But most people find my stuff through my posting, writing and in li'l communities I'm in, and I suspect many artists find success this way. It doesn't cost anything other [β¦]
So I took a page from @iamdavehawkins' book and put my entire latest album on my website. You can listen in full for free, even download it in whatever format you want (via Faircamp), and optionally throw me a few bucks in a few ways (including Venmo). All my other albums are there too [β¦]
Streaming and AI have fully commoditized music. We can't do anything about that, and many of us our comfortable streaming any music β even each other's music β using our service of choice.
But we also want to change things so that it's feasible to make even a *portion* of a living through art [β¦]
Somewhat hot take: I think every small indie musician should consider just giving all their music away for free, outside the streaming ecosystem in the easiest way possible, βpay if you wantβ style
Not as a teaser for something bigger, just give all of it away. But give people a way to [β¦]

Nothing new from me this Bandcamp Friday, though it's a good time to check out my back catalog if you haven't yet / in a while.
4 art rock concept albums, a bunch of singles and collabs. I most recently did a double-single with @comboverbeethoven and a @honeycrushing cover.
All proceeds will [β¦]
i've been seeing a lot more ads on threads.
not threads sponsored content, but rather viral posts where the pinned comment is an amazon link
It's a simple feature in all. But the exciting thing is that this is step 1 of a larger story for Buffer β one where we shift the product to one driven by insight and enabling momentum and clarity for any creator or business on social.

The idea is simple: You can now build an entire posting schedule using Buffer's recommended posting times. This isn't AI β it's an algorithmic system based on deep statistical analysis on the billions of posts shared through Buffer.
Prefer to keep control? No worries, you can fine-tune as you [β¦]

Something I still hear all the time from creators: "What's the best time to post?"
Some social media tools give you some answer here, but "why" is sort of a black box and you're paying $$$ for it. Otherwise, the model is that you're given stats: lots and lots of [β¦]

I continue to spiral in my head around LLMs and wrote some more thoughts on my blog about this, and how I reconcile my feelings as a tinkerer & tech enthusiast with my personal values & feelings as an artist and arts patron. The feelings here are still messy.

Quick update: I need to get legal house in order before I attempt to roll this out more widely. For now, I am really just looking for a few US based artists with whom to try this out.
Something I forgot to say: right now this only supports US-based artists. Payouts in international currencies is a thing I know is possible but I havenβt figured out the full legal/tax implications of handling different currencies and payouts outside my home country. Iβm looking into this though [β¦]
Btw: here is an example βpackβ. Very minimal for now

@iamdavehawkins I absolutely think this would be fun to incorporate into the webring
It's basically a recurring payment system you can easily plug into your existing site, as another way for people to support you & the artists in your community. Ideally these artist "packs" can support each other more sustainably than everyone having to do this on their own.
