Anyway, the problem turned out to be a bug elsewhere in the code but let this be a cautionary tale that solutions requiring people to remember about it later probably aren't the best solution.

Fast forward a few hours and I'm working to implement the solution when I discover that WE ALREADY IMPLEMENTED THE SOLUTION FOUR YEAR AGO AND FORGOT ABOUT IT.

Today I was on a call with other developers discussing how to fix a problem. A potential solution was proposed that would require us to remember about it and do things a certain way in the future so naturally I asked, "What happens when we make the change and six months from now forget about it?".
