im curious what happens if somebody spams from a blacksky app view and blacksky doesn't do anything about it? can bsky ban select people or only the app view?

Bluesky Social media as it should be. Find your community among millions of users, unleash your creativity, and have some fun again.

I imagine it's too easy for a gov to come to bsky.app and tell them to do <x> and <y> otherwise we will have our ISPs ban ur domain. Same thing happens with app stores

I wish there was more effort into self hosting app views as well since that's an easy chokepoint to influence, evidenced by the age verification with bluesky that was rolled out.

I think bluesky's reliance on traditional DNS is problematic, we've all seen how domains get seized or censored. I was hoping Bluesky would roll out their own naming system that can be resolved p2p, but to do that you would need a blockchain for consensus which I understand is not a good look

Additionally, the article doesn't address users could have two modes of loading content - A user can load their subscription fully p2p with maximum censorship resistance, while fetching discovery feed from servers that have indexed the entire network.

An assumption of this article is that pure p2p apps can't have "ownership" which I disagree with. Using IPNS you could have a mutable record that is updated over pubsub with a keypair and signature. It will allow for BitTorrent level of scale while giving users/communities ownership of their data.

niiice hoping the issue with not providing cids to http routers is fixed

work is getting done on standardizing media for content addressablity. Pretty good for decentralized social media in the long term if we could have native p2p vids at some point

p2p tech is not easy, we thought we would have an MVP of a p2p communities reddit-like UI within 6 months but it took us 4 years and we're still grinding

We would love to use that for our communities since one of our biggest risks is private key leaking or getting stolen. If there's any updates on this lmk

Couldn't you give it high ttl but low cache duration so your IPNS record would stay around forever - assuming other people are joining the pubsub topic and keep the cid alive?

14.02.2026 07:08 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

how?

14.02.2026 07:04 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

is it possible to have try peersky out on a webpage instead of its own app? Should be possible in theory with helia, no? DHT wouldn't work though so you would have to use http routers for finding providers

Plebbit (soon to rebranded to PKC/Bitsocial) solves this by peers exchanges challenges and answers with community owner directly via pubsub.

Happy to be corrected though

You can either host your own gateway (but increases your costs and maintenance) or delegate it to somebody else, but then the person running the gateway can just lie and say peer <y> did solve all challenges correctly.

02.01.2026 11:40 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

My biggest problem with it is not having arbitary challenges builtin, my understanding if you're community owner <x> and want to ask peer <y> to solve an anti spam challenge, you have to deploy an HTTP "gateway" that author needs to communicate with first, acquire the writing token.

I read about Willow and I have a few thoughts:

- Willow seems to designed primarily for private access communities, I understand it has a mode for public but it's not as robust as we would like it to be.

also is it just me or is Discover feed really bad with finding relevant content to my interests?
