Solar doesn’t mind the cold. Panels run on light, not heat.

A five-year Alberta study found snow reduced winter production by only ~3%. Shorter days matter more than temperature.

The Winter Solstice is today, which means the shortest day of the year, but it doesn’t mean the sun isn’t shining. Clear skies and snow can brighten things up, and solar panels can still make use of the light even in the middle of winter.

Saskatoon no longer a leader in solar power, business owner says | CBC News During budget talks last week, council voted unanimously to reduce the rates at which it compensates Saskatoon Light and Power customers who produce solar power and sell it to the electricity grid.

Saskatoon is lowering the compensation rate for SL&P customers who send solar power back to the grid. It doesn’t stop solar, but it makes new community energy projects harder to build and slows momentum when we need it most. Link below for the full story.
