They kicked out all the trans folks so our cyber defense capacity is basically nil.

It's like map reading. Some folks come in knowing, some folks learn in training, and some never learn at all.

For the longest time I thought that, if anything, the army spent too much training time on values, because who doesn't inherently understand things like honor, respect, integrity etc. Guys like this are a minority of vets but its clear that some people never understood our professed values at all

This is honestly one of the most anti-Jewish things I’ve ever seen from the United States government.

Can’t overemphasize this. They spent decades saying the US was thirsty for Iranian blood and would conspire with Israel to destroy them, and used that to justify their oppression and militarism. And guess what!

Worse than the worst War on Terror drone strikes. By innocents killed, worse than multiple of the worst drone strike errors combined.

I know that the people who need to read this aren’t here, but here goes:

Rules of engagement aren’t for the enemy. They’re for you. They’re for your soldiers when they’re captured or wounded. They’re for your civilians when they’re in range of the enemy. They’re for your allies, to reassure.

for those of you who werent adults during iraq, its hard to overstate how much the media loves war porn. they salivate over pentagon spin briefings. they love stories about all the bombs and how supposedly infallible they are. they love the notion of the commander in chief, in the situation room etc

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.

We mustn’t let this war do so.

this is also true for 90% of the military's understanding of military affairs tbh

There is a strange familiarity with death and violence that military personnel deal with on a daily basis which grants a sort of knowledge that most other professions do not gain. The most elemental thing that a Soldier knows, or is prepared to know, is that the spectre of Death is always nearby.

Military culture works to turn every visit from Death into a celebration of the Warrior Spirit. The raw grief is tempered, if not completely drowned out, by a wash of heroic sentiment and patriotic feeling. No matter how gruesome the details, or how unrecognizable the contents of that flag-draped coffin, ceremony turns the details of Death into something beautiful and fine.

But Death still takes its toll on you. Physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually... I'm exhausted.

Who am I kidding? I was already exhausted.

My friends are dying. They are wanting to die. Trying to die. Because the world wants us to die. Because the world thinks we aren't worth the effort to save. Just take as much as they can, and throw us aside when they're done.

I can't even count how many people have told me that they wouldn't even care if they never woke up.

There's no celebration of heroism to be had here. No warrior spirit. Just quiet desperation. Just an endless, drudging sense of sheer hopelessness.

I want to say to them, "the world is better with you in it. There is so much that is dark and bad here, you are one of the bright spots. Please, please don't die."

And if I'm to be completely honest, "Please, don't leave me here alone. I can't lose you too."

People keep asking if I'm considering my own death. They don't get it. They're completely missing the point. Death took my friends from me. Why would I give it more?

But that spectre is right there, right behind me, just out of view. Whispering in my ear the most horrible thing I can imagine--

"I'm taking you last.”

As more of us start coming back in flag-draped coffins again, I'm thinking about something I wrote some years ago.

I'm so tired of all this death.

If two guys went up to a kid, one guy shot the kid, then the other guy went "woah woah woah dude, you didn't fill out the form for child murder, you gotta do the proper paperwork to murder kids bro, there is a process here," you would reasonably conclude that two guys had murdered that kid.

Please don't post photos of dead children, or videos of dead children, or yell DONT LOOK AWAY. You are sick. Log off. Touch grass. You have PTSD and are inflicting it on us all. If you are not in media/ a conflict researcher/ etc you do NOT need to consume Horrors. Blocking lots right now.

Never forget that shutting down your local arms factory is infinitely more useful to the victims of war than voyeuristically consuming imagery of mutilation.

In the past, sometimes presidents have said it’s just a military operation or limited airstrikes to skirt Congress. Trump has unilaterally launched major combat operations, declaring war with the goal of regime change. A major violation of the U.S. Constitution, also illegal under international law

"I have gone to war and now I can issue my complaint. I can sit on my porch and complain all day. And you must listen. Some of you will say to me: You signed the contract, you crying bitch, and you fought in a war because of your signature, no one held a gun to your head...
