hi @josephcox.bsky.social @404media.co, Manuel Paez TerΓ‘n used they/them pronouns, if that could be corrected in your copy
i know people on here don't rly care about culture coverage but sharing because I'm proud I did it: reviewed Mitski's new residency at NYC's The Shed @us.theguardian.com
seeing her perform for the ninth time in 9 years (!), I feel confident saying that Mitski is in her triumphant era.
Former LA Times managing editor @sarayasin.bsky.social launches The Key, a new publication about Palestine that will be "a home for journalists who have had their stories spiked in mainstream outlets."
Her opening essay is worth every second of your time: www.thekeymagazine.com/p/western-jo...
There it is: Noem out, Mullin in
Just finished the Behind the Bastards episodes on the impact of Jeffrey Epstein. And like a takeway is that he started funding anti-trans research because he allegedly SA'd a trans girl (she was 16 at the time) who turned around and sued his ass for it and he was mad that she sued him.
βMy little girl was completely burned,β he said. βThere was nothing left of her. We could only identify her from her school bag, which she was still holding. She was completely burned.β
I strongly considered it but was like I donβt wanna stoop to her level
just watched an older white woman in all black designer repeatedly try and film an unhoused person on the train who was simply existing so I stood directly in her way until she got off the train but she actually kept trying to film him *around* me as I stared at her. agog at the inhumanity of people
I recognize I am an extremely rare holdout in that I have been so hardline anti-AI that I have still yet to use a chatbot willingly, but uh, I feel like every other story I read is about how all the consumer-facing stuff is a mental illness particle accelerator www.theguardian.com/technology/n...
there is a group in America actively being unpersonned right now, and the Altantic has chosen to attack them. embarrassing.
I'm very excited to be working as a editor on a nonfiction comics series on censorship with @xtramagazine.com !
Dylan Lopez Contreras, a student at Ellis Prep academy, was kidnapped by ICE in May and has been detained since.

Hello! I am a trans journalist looking to speak with trans kids and parents of trans kids across the US who have been impacted by the clinic closures---please get in touch or share!
Commentary: Anyone Else Have Those Weird Dreams Where Sobbing Future Generations Beg You To Change Course?
over the piece's tone, which is clearly joking, and its rehashing of decades worth of sapphic discourse, which, yknow, like it or not, it comes up all the time regardless
and I'm certainly not the one to discount/weigh in on that! but I'm seeing racism and homophobia/lesbophobia directed at the writer over it
finding it pretty wack to watch a bunch of 35 y/o-and-older adults dunk on and malign this 24-year-old lesbian of color over a piece that came out ~8 months ago, but do you I guess
pretty confident that if our own government bombed, say, Philadelphia, we'd just kind forget about it after a couple more Rocky movies
Media Matters analyzed a year of NYT coverage of anti-trans bills and found that 66% of the time the paper didn't quote a trans person. Further, it found that the paper often quoted right wing sources without mentioning their histories of anti-trans rhetoric.
So "right-wing rag" is pretty accurate.
Like culture posts on this app simply donβt get the engagement and I think itβs because people feel itβs frivolous and actually itβs the thing we are fighting for, the freedom to make culture and cultural works
Behind the preserved historical facades, the ultra-rich are buying up adjacent townhomes in the West Village and Upper East Side, combining them into a megamansion. It's part of a broader trend of small multifamily buildings being turned into single-family homes. www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
good story from the sun-time about the consequences of criminal chargesβeven if those charges are later dropped.
wish they would apply the same logic more generally to people facing things like gun charges, which get dropped all the time bc theyβre bogus/illegal.
Okay, yβall. How do we build the public media structure we both need and deserve? Iβve had enough of this shit.
yep
yesterday Conde's biggest cover story of 2025 (I think it's safe to say) got nominated for an ASME: a cover story about a trans woman, produced by a team that i helped guide as a trans person. and in the 11 months since it came out, they got rid of almost all of us
in less than 6 months CondΓ© Nast got rid of every trans woman on editorial. there is no liberal media.
www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general...
Conde Nast just sold them.us to the parent company of Out, The Advocate, etc. so there goes like 95% of the trans staffers at the company (after they got rid of 2 of us in November <33)
Holy shit β they actually did it.
All, The following instructions pertain to the passing of SB 244 regarding gender reclassifications. I've attached the letter that was sent to the individuals who need to return to our office and have their credential updated with their gender at birth. A flag will show on record indicating SB244 NOTICE for anyone who has been sent a letter. The individuals will be charged as normal for their reissuance. Should these customers arrive at the office without an appointment you are to make certain to get them processed as soon as possible, getting them in and out of the office. When issuing these credentials, you MUST reach out to the DL Helpdesk at KDOR_Photostop@ks.gov with the individuals K# and name indicating SB 244 update. For your ISSUANCE NOTE please include the following information: ο»Ώο»Ώ"Subject"=REISSUED PER SB 244 ο»Ώο»Ώ"Note"=GENDER CHANGED FROM MALE TO FEMALE (or whatever the situation) - Along with regular credential issuance notes
Little scoop before publishing a full story on the situation later β I've obtained the email sent to all Kansas DMV employees by Kent Selk, Driver Services Manager for the Kansas Department of Revenue on how to handle the compulsory gender marker change for trans people.
