Our hope: that these ideas help shape debates at Encuentro+B Amazônia and #COP30 in Belém—so the Declaration becomes not just words, but a turning point for Amazonia and for all of us.
We illustrate this with the Putumayo Trinational Corridor (Colombia, Ecuador & Peru). There, structured decision-making helped align shared goals and coordinate transboundary actions to conserve biodiversity while strengthening local communities.
We propose a collaborative blueprint: structured decision-making. It means setting clear goals, weighing trade-offs, & co-designing solutions that honor both biodiversity and people’s livelihoods.
But ambition needs clarity. Without coordinated action, deforestation, mining & climate change will keep eroding the Amazon’s resilience. A patchwork of efforts won’t be enough.
The Belém Declaration unites 8 Amazonian countries with 113 shared objectives. It’s not just a treaty—it’s a chance to reimagine how we protect the world’s largest tropical forest. otca.org/conozca-la-d...
Imagine an Amazon where nations work together, rivers still fly moisture to the Andes, jaguars roam safely, and Indigenous voices guide decisions. 🌿✨
