A moment from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan shows Kirk on the bridge of the Enterprise during a red alert. Everything is bathed in red light as he stands up from his chair, a look of horror and dawning comprehension on his face as he sees the face of the enemy for the first time. Behind him, we see Beaker (the Muppet) pulling his head down into his shirt to the nose like a frightened turtle.

In a scene from Starfleet Academy, we see some of the cadets as they sit in theater class. In the foreground, we have SAM and Gonzo sitting behind a table. SAM is paying attention to the teacher while Gonzo appears to be riding his stool like a bronco, legs out and gripping the seat with his hands. Behind them, Tarima can be seen looking sulky.

3 Screenshots from the movie "A Fish Called Wanda" (1988): First, a close-up of two large diamonds resting on a white fabric napkin. Second, an office setting where two armed robbers dressed in black ski masks and tactical gear hold up a jewellers. A man in a suit stands near a security cage with his hands raised, while hostages sit on the floor, some looking terrified. The subtitle reads: "Anybody moves and you're dead!" Third, a courtroom scene where a barrister with a white wig and black robe speaks intensely while standing in front of a panel of judges and lawyers. The background is filled with other legal professionals and spectators. The subtitle reads: "Miss Gershwitz, on the fourth of March of this year, in the morning, where were you?"
Mar 4th - Gangster George Thomason, his stuttering animal-loving right-hand man Ken Pile, and Americans con artist Wanda Gershwitz and weapons expert Otto West commit a jewellery heist.

Photograph of a tree line in morning twilight. A light fog partially obscure the trees in the distance and gives an overall haze to the image.
Photograph of warm sunrise shining through evergreen trees and lighting up the bare branches of another tree in the foreground. All the trees have a light sticky snow cover from the 1 inch which turned into 4 inches of snow that came down before it turned to ice.

Photograph of the full moon in near total eclipse behind bare trees silhouetted against a pale blue-purple morning twilight sky. The bottom right portion of the moon is illuminated with sunlight tinged yellow-orange from passing through so much of the atmosphere. The upper left portion is in nearly full shadow. We were about 20 minutes away from totality when the moon got too low in the sky to see anymore.
Celestial mechanic see fit to make this eclipse either difficult or inconvenient to observe for most people in North America. But I did get to see near-totality before the moon set all the way behind the trees

Photograph of a hardcover book laying on a wooden table. The book is titled Harrow the ninth, by Tamsyn Muir. On the cover are a bunch of skeletons that are in various states of destruction and seem to have looks on their faces of fear or awe, if skeletons could emote. In the center is a small, dark haired woman whose face is painted to look like a skull. She wears a black bodysuit with bone armor covering her in strategic places to augment her waifish necromancer frame. On her back is a two hand long sword that is way too large and heavy for her, almost as if it was once held by someone taller and stronger with much redder hair. Someone quite cavalier.
Photograph of a book laying open on a wooden table. The blue end papers at first appear to have a repeating pattern of symbols on them. Upon closer inspection, one can see that they are a series of skulls with different adornments, like blindfolds, masks, laurel crowns, and of course⦠Aviators.

Photo of two pancakes on a griddle. They are bottom-side up (as opposed to upside-down) and are filled with pieces of bacon. The griddle was previously used to fry said bacon and there are fried bits all over the griddle making it look much messier than Iβd normally choose to photograph. But it stands as evidence to the bacon infusion. The pancakes are thick, but light and crispy. Cut them up, smeared with honey butter, topped with more bacon, and slathered with real NH maple syrup and served in a bowl. Sometimes itβs taste and efficiency over presentation.
Photograph of a pan of baked rigatoni in an aluminum pan in the oven. Fresh mozzarella browned perfectly on the top. Iβve posted this dish before. Cannot overstate the warmth and cheesiness (complementary) it brings into your life.

Photo of βThe Dream Hotelβ by Laila Lalami sitting on an end table. It is indigo in color with a rectangular three dimensional box in the middle where the view deep into it is obscured by darkness. At the bottom of a box is a small, lonely human figure.
According to the author, this book was started then abandoned for other projects back in 2016. The isolation of Covid brought her back to it. A work of speculative fiction which builds upon both Kafka and PKD, it was published just last year and NOW is the perfect time to be reading it given⦠<waves around at everything>.

Photo of a wedge salad: iceberg lettuce, bacon crumbles, mini tomatoes, and blue cheese in a bowl with copious amounts of fresh pepper.
Photo of a bottle of the bean pinotage wine. There is an illustration of coffee beans on the bottle. It has notes of coffee and even bacon. A stemless wineglass covered in constellations sits next to it.
Magic has happened. Photo of a wooden cutting board with two twice baked potatoes (is that 4 bakes?) and a 26 oz monster of a delmonico ribeye. Itβs been seared in a cast iron pan and dressed with a compound butter of garlic, sage, and parsley. You can practically hear the sizzle.
And hereβs where we go full metal steakhouse. Photo of the 1.5β thick 26oz ribeye being sliced for presentation. Just like a captain would do table side at one of those fancy-ass white tablecloth crumb comb places. Perfect medium-rare in the center, which works out since I like it that way and K prefers medium. Itβs like it was meant to be π.
Should we go out to a steakhouse for Valentineβs Day?
No we have a steakhouse at home.
