Mulan 2 actively brought down Mushu's character by having him act as a saboteur for Mulan and Li Shang's relationship.

All the other examples I could think of fall more along the lines of "poorly handled love triangle" or had more glaring flaws than the removal of a romance.

I really wish Capcom would stop getting into controversy with Megaman. It's easily one of my favourite interests, and it feels really awful when new projects like dual override or the udon comics have some scandal(s) attached to them.
