true. my worry is more that we tend to over-theorize certain methods as inherently tied to some political stance or another. virtue ethics is a case in point—it's often described as inherently conservative, but it's modern history is way more complex.
Dorrien argued that Tanner, Serene Jones, Eugene Rogers, etc. = strand of postliberalism reconnecting w liberalism. (Rogers just describes himself as a liberal in recent writings.) Maybe theological methods/tendencies can't be neatly divvied up into ideological camps! (Reichel relevant here)

was noticing this yesterday in Long's intro to theology and culture, where he has to label Tanner as a "postmodern feminist" and then make up stuff about her to distinguish her from postliberalism.
bc then they would have to deal with Tanner and that would mess up their narratives.
