did you get other cousins excited and involved? These are just some of my questions. If anyone has advice, please share it below. Thanks y’all! #genealogy #familyhistory

considering moving forward soon. I’ve done some research into the idea, of course, and I have lots of ideas, but I’d love to hear any advice any of you may have for taking on this kind of project. What worked? What didn’t? How did you manage time and cost? And how (cont) #genealogy #familyhistory

Does anyone have any experience publishing a family newsletter? I recently sent out messages to over 30 Michael family cousins asking if anyone would be interested in such a project. I’ve gotten several responses so far and the support has been unanimous, so I’m (cont) #genealogy #familyhistory

Family History Journal #5 - Cooper family work, the Indiana Project, and a Michael family newsletter - Along the Creek I haven’t been able to do much research lately, which bums me out a little, but I have been busy working on family history projects in other ways… As always, I’m often busy creating charts. This time,...

I really want to know what happened to Republicans being all for small government. Idk how anything they're doing since the evil Cheeto was reelected represents small government in any way, especially his use of the National Guard.

Has anyone else noticed that Trump has successfully gotten everyone to stop talking about Epstein? I mean now we're talking about Texas and Putin and DC with Epstein's name nowhere to be heard. Idk about y'all, but I still want to know what he's hiding.

Family History Journal #3 - A little of this, a little of that - Along the Creek Sorry for the lack of posts the past few days. I wasn’t at my best, so I took some time off from my research. I jumped back in today, though, and, as the title says, did a little of this and a little ...

Apparently the DC police union said they agree "that crime is spiraling out of control" in DC, which is a perfect demonstration of why cops can't be trusted, because they don't operate in fact or reality anymore than Trump and the Republicans do.

Also, don't mind that there's nothing else besides my first post there. I've always wanted to start a family history blog but never felt ready for it until now, and I started this one on a whim, so it's bare bones right now. I plan to work a lot more on it in the coming weeks, though. 🙂

Home - Along the Creek

I started a family history blog! It's called Along the Creek, and can be found at alongthecreek.com. I started it with the intention of sharing my work with others there. I've not always been the best at documenting my research, so that's what I'm setting out to do! #genealogy #familyhistory

Trump’s attempts at erasing trans people only makes us fight harder. We refuse to be erased and we refuse to hide. Fuck the Cheeto and his bigotry 🖕🏻

Can someone tell Lee Zeldin that growing the economy does no good when we're destroying the only planet we have to live on? That money ain't gonna save you once we've made this planet unlivable, bro.

Surely MTG using the word "genocide" to describe what Israel is doing will be some kind of turning point, right? I mean when even a whack job like her can acknowledge this reality, that must mean people in this country are actually waking up... right? Right?!

I don’t talk politics much on here, but now that this big bullshit bill has been signed into law, my question is this: when the fuck do we finally say “enough is enough” and revolt? Because I’m just sayin’ I BEEN ready.

We’re a hardworking, thoughtful bunch with a lot of experience and we’re eager to get to work making FRECOGS the best resource it can be! So if you’re a member of FRECOGS, be sure to check your email for the ballot link that was sent out tonight. #genealogy #familyhistory

I absolutely agree, describing the process is what seems to trip people up. I mean people definitely know what a family tree or family history is, but "genealogy" often flies over their heads.

I do agree that the term is becoming more popularized, so hopefully this issue will alleviate itself somewhat over the coming years. Using the terms "ancestry" or "ancestors" is a good strategy as well. I feel like those are understood more widely than "genealogy" at this point.

Yep, I've had someone who thought I was a Dr. as well. I think describing it the way you do is a good approach. People understand what history is, so I feel like using that term really helps alleviate the confusion.

Ngl, dinosaurs is pretty funny lol. It's a perfect demonstration, though, that a lot of professions use language that many don't understand, and I feel like it really inhibits growth in those fields sometimes. I'd love to hear more about that presentation idea and your thoughts on the matter!

So I'm curious: What do y'all think about the term #genealogy? Have you had similar experiences when explaining your hobby/profession to others? Or am I out here on this limb by myself? Let me know.

Because of it, I can't help but feel like we have a massive messaging problem. While #genealogy is technically what we do, it seems counterproductive to continue to use that term, and I've become partial to the term #familyhistory because I feel like it speaks for itself.
