Canβt wait to pitch my next games piece - βEducation is Hell: Demon School and Pedagogy of the Oppressedβ
(A joke about our previous governorβs ambitions that I expect to only hit in VA)
Congratulations to new DHS secretary Glenn Youngkin
I wrote about some VERY simple things that would make grad ed a lot better. Some of this is not that hard! Tl;dr: Make sure students have a clear sense of expectations, help them understand the institution, & put up some basic guardrails around advising.

I studied Dolly Parton with Beefcake the Mighty from GWAR.
I used to do the same thing when I had really bad flight anxiety. I would clutch the armrest and learn Whitman for hours. Would love to hear what words are giving others strength right now.
Lately that has been this powerful statement by Ada Palmer.

Words have power. One of the ways Iβm trying to deal with despair is by reaching for inspiring writing. Rather than doom scroll I am trying to memorize language that gives me hope.
Feels like a different planet
βHuh I wonder how old Dustin Hoffman is in this movie?β
*finds out it is my age*

Same!! Itβs always a highlight.
100%. And am always down for any recharging and energizing collaborations you want to get into. Starting with the ACH workshop series!
Solidarity with all of this, but also you give inspiration to others (incl. me) - which is not nothing!
I love this!
Screenshot of a course description that reads: Surviving the Textpocalypse. The advent of generative AI has been described as a ΒΏtextpocalpyse," with chatbots producing content ranging from ΒΏAI slopΒΏ to missile target suggestions. As literary scholars and as people in the world, how do we survive? This course, paired with a humanities graduate seminar, will explore this question through theories of resistance, refusal, and reimagining; and through practice by gaining knowledge about how genAI works. Our goal is to implement strategies of survival and worldbuilding.
Pretty excited for HOW TO SURVIVE THE TEXTPOCALYPSE, the seminar I'm teaching at @emorycollege.bsky.social next fall with @shsalter.bsky.social (and with a nod to @mkirschenbaum.bsky.social for title inspo)
ICYMI a piece of mine came out yesterday that reads the mechanics in Death Howl as frustrating by design. Loss, Elizabeth Bishop, and more.
Oh lord Slay the Spire 2 coming out so soon. Iβm not ready.
Congratulations, Amy!
Thank you, my friend!
Deck builders are meant to elicit a sense of snowballing strength. What if one used its mechanics instead to explore loss and grief?
@walshbr.bsky.social's debut on @gamerswithglasses.bsky.social is a banger.
I wrote for @gamerswithglasses.bsky.social on Death Howl, frustrating mechanics, and narratives of loss.
Thanks for having me!
How dare you have ideas
I got COVID for the first time, missed a 5K, and bought Mario Tennis Fever. If this blog doesn't make sense, it's because I'm still in the guest room with a mountain of empty Gatorades and a perpetually charging Switch 2.
It's interesting seeing all the take-havers having viral takes about AI that are essentially verbatim recitations of deeply researched analyses offered by AI scholars ten years ago, when they those caveats were ignored by press + the general public because the threat wasn't yet so intensely palpable
If only we had any films, television, music, art, etc etc that warned us of such things.
Sup chat this is Slouching Towards Bethlehem with your boy The Rough Beast, and it looks like todayβs stream could be a big one, as some of you mightβve already seen there are rumors going around social media that the hour has come round at last, so weβre gonna get right into it
Ah thanks for pinging me!

Hey, it's @walshbr.bsky.social & more The Hard Modes musicians! If you need a breather, their jazz mashup of Chrono Trigger + AC:NH is delightful: m.youtube.com/watch?v=BF7v...
