This kind of framing is well meaning but can often be counter-productive, as it becomes harder for non-binary people to be respected and viewed the way they want to be, especially for non-binary people who are not and do not particularly want to be seen as feminine.
The message behind this post is wonderful and encouraged, but I'd like to suggest that the way in which non-binary people are framed in it could be seen as somewhat gauche. It is a genuine issue that non-binary identities are improperly perceived as "woman-lite".

and then often the games that come out of this self consciousness are like... totally in service to dominant social trends and practices hehe. they often aren't even aesthetically interested in punk so they don't even meet the bar to debate whether they're "posers"!!!
like I think it's very possible to be nerdy about things and punk, and it is often the case, but the way I see it used seems almost insecure to me. like you don't want to just be a nerdy game designer, you want to be an badass Rockstar or a cool subversive Punk
(hence also talking about "rockstar game developer" as a term that is used in a very similar way by a different crowd of people)
there's certainly a lot of crossover! I'm specifically vaguely bitching about a trend in video games right now where a bunch of games are being labelled as "[thing]punk" seemingly just to make them appear more subversive / cool by association, despite not really being punk in a meaningful way

in a similar sense i think the "-punk" moniker implies a similar sense of coolness, purpose, focus. obviously anyone who's hung out with punks ever will know how silly this perception is to begin with but beyond anything it's just deeply lame. you're trying to just kind of Cool By Association
everybody wants to be a rockstar because the rockstar holds an implicit Coolness. if you're a rockstar you're legendary but nobody who claims to be one has been sufficiently esoteric or interesting. the great Rockstar Game Developers of our time are just like, middle managers who do talks. big whoop
"i'm a rockstar game developer" you're a nerd who talks at conferences. at least act like a rockstar
it just makes me toss and turn imagining in like 60 years people cherry picking to make trump's regime out to be like cool badass supervillains who were narrowly stopped by the forces of good the same way they did with the nazis
what makes me irritated is the idea that people will like, retroactively make this stuff feel cool. like so much of what the nazis did was, in addition to being deeply evil, totally embarrassing and childish. but people have gone back and like "cool-ified" it. same way they make them out to be smart
you either understand the difference between the two situations and are a willfully obtuse troll, or you don't and are just a fundamentally incurious person who is indistinguishable from the former. either way i don't see the point of doing this bit with you. hope the rest of your shift goes well!
