Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

But to answer your questions, WinRar has a legit free option, so I don't think there's a moral issue there. (I did pay for it though 🙂) The other two are obviously moral issues. But they're not topics that I really pay much attention to.
To clarify: I have moral issues with generating code because I know that it's sourced illegitimately. They steal code the same way they steal art, music, written works, etc.
If I steal code that I'm not licensed to use at work, that's a fireable offense. So why is it ok to use an LLM that stole it?
That’s really getting into the weeds, and I don’t have a good answer. I guess people just have to follow their conscience when it comes to the gray areas.
But the models ARE built from code that violates licenses. That’s really the core of the issue for me.
I see takes like this sometimes. I think it's similar to the "autocomplete on steroids" argument. That's certainly not as egregious as "Hey AI, make this program for me."
