Actually, they were invented by the Spanish Empire in Cuba during the Ten Years' War. They utilised them again in Cuba with Valeriano Weyler's Reconcentration Policy of 1896. This policy is where the term Concentration Camp gets its name from/ first coined.

And yes, the concept of imprisoning perceived enemy populations has been occurring for many thousands of years. But do please tell me how this first occurred during British colonial rule in India and Afghanistan. I could do with a laugh. And don't forget to cite your sources 😉
