Thatβs because the Finder comment is saved in an external, invisible .DS_store file. It quickly becomes out of sync especially with cloud storages and/or moving files.
So yeah, thatβs why xattr was my preferred choice.

Oh, I didnβt notice that to be honest π
What exactly are they pushing?
And yes, each comment will be saved as an extended attribute. So it should work just fine.
However, one thing I noticed is that Finder wonβt always show the comment it you hit β+I. The comment exists though.
It should work just fine since itβll attached to the file itself. The comment will be saved as a xattr βcommentβ to the file.
Introducing my first macOS app: DocommentsβA delightful way to add notes to your files π
Recently, Iβve felt the need to add short comments to files as a kind of change log. So I built my own app! If it fits your workflow, why not give it a try?π

I am super excited to share that my very first iOS app, Velorino, is now live in the App Store β¨
Velorino is your cycling companion, showing you POIs like public water dispenser to fill up your bottles, snack stations to grab a snack, or self-service bike stations.

βThe size of the watchOS variant is 76MB, which exceeds the maximum allowable size of 75MB after app thinning.β

So thatβs why itβs called Split View.
Todayβs task was to divide my Mac screen into 8 pizza slices to enable automatic snapping ππ§²

screenshot of the geojson viewer app
What a crazy week. In addition to new updates for my license plate app, I built three new Mac apps. Each of them serves a different purpose and was created to simplify my workflow.
I am most proud of a (not-so-small) GeoJSON viewer app.

Excited to announce that Aeronaut is now live in the Mac App Store! π
After two years of tinkering, polishing, and obsessing over the little things, itβs finally here!

Thanks a lot Chris!! π₯³π
Oh my! My app has quietly surpassed 500 ratings globally, and it's still rocking at 4.9! π€©π₯³
I couldn't be happier!

It seems that asset catalogs still generate rasterized versions even if your chose βPreserve vector dataβ.
One last step was to heavily compress all PDF files.
Thatβs how I went from 300 MB to 80 MB.
I started by using SVGs instead of PDFs for all vector graphics. However this would cause huge performance issues.
So I switched back to PDFs but instead of placing them in an asset catalog, I now have my own package which contains all PDFs. I also switched all PNG formats to HEIC.
I'm working on the next version of my app and finally decided to reduce its size (was 300 MB).
After days and nights of compressing and optimising images, plus a small breakdown yesterday when it reached 1 GB π« , I'm happy with the result: only 80 MB! π₯³π₯³π₯³

Screenshots showing the infos of two folders. The one titled Yasuni is 27MB in size. The one titled Yasuni - HEIC is 3,6MB in size.
Friendly reminder to export your app assets as HEIC instead of PNGs!
For Art of Flora, this lead to an almost a 85% reduction of size π±

Honestly, the app is free and covers a very niche area. For the iOS counterpart word of mouth worked best so I think itβll be the same for Android.
π¨THE WAIT IS OVERπ¨
Iβm very happy to announce that my little license plate app is now also available on Android! π€π

There's reason to celebrate! One year ago today, Kennzeichen Wiki was released in the App Store! ππ
A lot has happened in the meantime, and even an Android app is in the starting blocks π
At this point, I'd just like to say a big thank you to all of you! Here's to many more years! π«Ά

I'm not sure if a macOS app can be more niche than this: I wanted to access the macOS share sheet in @vivaldi.com faster, or by clicking on a button, rather than using File > Share. So, I built an app for it. You can join the TestFlight, if that is your thing.

Depressing indeed⦠luckily the developer apologized and will change the icon with the next update.
Thank you for saying this. The compromise is definitely the solution I was hoping for.
Thanks! Iβm also pleased with the way this matter has turned out.
The screenshots donβt bother me too much but the icon definitely triggered something (probably due to my very strong bond to app icons)β¦
Update on this: I had a call with the developer and he apologized and will change the icon with the next update.
Wow, thatβs next-level audacity!
In my case I just had a call with the developer and he will change the icon with the next update.
Thanks for the suggestion! I just had a call with Kai and he will change the icon with the next update.
I have no clue tbh. My app doesnβt generate any revenues at all so this canβt be it. The only thing I can think of is to jump on the train in order to misguide users. It also uses the exact name of another competitor appβ¦
Great, looks like I found my first copycatβ¦ not sure if I should be flattered or pissed π

Absolutely! My go-to playlist at the moment (sorry if itβs Apple Music only)
