Americans are addicted to cars, but in many ways it's a forced addiction. Decades of policy have made cars the dominant mode of travel at the expense of others, and marketing reinforces the car as the "best" choice. This isn't to excuse individual choices, but car dependency is a systemic issue.

Until we move away from sedentary lifestyles and travel and recognise that active travel is key to health.

Any ‘strategy’ is doomed to fail.

There's a public input opportunity on this bridge open through March 9th: www.baycrossingstudy.com/public-engag...

There are very few safe crossings of the Chesapeake Bay and a bike/ped path could be a key piece of regional and national routes

Let them know you support a safe bike/ped crossing!

I knew it was for lease reasons, but the macro pointed here makes more sense. Ain't got no one to blame but ourselves for this... and can certainly understand @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social's stance. Stability over a lot of things... and looking 5 years out, there's quite a bit of questions here.

Some cities are ditching license plate readers over immigration surveillance concerns Cities around the country are debating whether to keep their automatic license plate readers. Concerns about privacy and federal immigration agents can access local data are driving these debates.

Another example of why I hate so much the folks who tell us this stuff is inevitable.

It doesn’t have to be this way!

Often when communities see the stakes, they reject ubiquitous surveillance.

Parking As Access, Or Urbanist Ideals Meet Real Life What should you think when urbanism really does make your life harder?

Caught me off guard as I chose to drive vs ride to the cafe…

“…because, in suburbia, the car is inseparable from access, and driving is impossible without parking, businesses which don’t provide ample parking are engaging in a kind of discrimination.”

Little Fish Eat Big Fish This weekend, you may have learned that social media and relentless footage of atrocities do not, in fact, desensitize us. We are all—those of us with moral and ethical fibers left in our bodies, I me...

People often look to tech for solutions, or to leadership for sweeping changes, but change also comes from us—individuals in difficult situations, working locally, dealing with real friction that a silver bullet can't solve. I wrote about that this week.

I just got done watching a truly horrible movie at Sundance ("The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist"). It was introduced by the Sundance programming rep as having "a strong sense of informational integrity", but it's hard to imagine a characterization more off the mark.

Watching what was cleared for snow in my complex… there’s just too much room given to autos

…and there seems to be some better, self regulated traffic control with the tighter spaces for movement of autos

This is probably what I’d want to change 2nd most with zoning reform

One of the things which is happening with me and biking is how my home will need to have me be more of a teacher than just a cyclist.

Not just routes, but personalizing and legal bits as well.

It’s the kind of orientation which makes the @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social as a primary kinda smart

Kind of post that invites getting back into the homework of running one’s own PDS… appreciate this clarity in just this aspect of things. It’s hard to make such a technical & governance grounded thing this simply stated.
