Decided not to go with the joints solution for #ProjectFlipDot for now. I tried a different method to print two-colored dots and it worked out a lot better this time. I also fixed the mistake I made with v6 concerning the flip size. Yay.
I also did some first electronics tests, but without success.

Since I need to combine two differently colored parts to be able to properly print them, I've also done some tests for joints. It was sort of successful, but I'm not that happy with the results. Will need some more tinkering.

a screenshot of the freecad program with a new and improved model of the flip dot.
I've upgraded my toolset for #ProjectFlipDot. Thanks #tinkercad for the quick and easy tools, but I've decided to switch to @freecad.org for now. v4 was still too tight, so was v5, but I think I've now figured out what the issue was so I can proceed to fix it in v6.

A Flip Dot module, turned so it only shows the white side.
That same flip dot module, but now it's showing only the black side. You can clearly see that the base module was painted black with a sharpie, while the flip part was printed directly in black.
v3 of #ProjectFlipDot. I like the one closed off side, but the other side is still too tight and too flimsy at the same time.
I also tried printing it in 2 colors, as the final product would be, too. Baseplate was really bad, so I resorted to making it white and painting it black with a sharpie.

Four 3d-printed flip dot modules, arranged to show they are tileable. Roughly square shaped with corner cut off for the base plate and half of that for the flip plate. The flipping parts have holes in them, two of which are filled with a magnet.
The same four flip dot modules, this time pushed together to show how nicely they fit together.
v2 of #ProjectFlipDot is 2 steps forward, 1 step back.
I made the dot modules tileable and tightened the flip guide, but I overshot on that regard and now the dot requires a lot more force to be flipped.
Promisingly there doesn't seem to be any bleeding between the magnets.

Off to a good start with #ProjectFlipDot.
v1 shows it's generally feasible.
Next up: making it tileable and check if the magnets interfer.

I'm not very knowledgeable in product design or electronics, so what I'll do is probably very amateurish.
From my first research I can tell that many makers and hobby electronics people have tried something similar, but no project has reached maturity - which worries me bcs they have skills I don't

For an art project of mine I need a flip dot display. Unfortunately they are near impossible to come by, let alone in an affordable manner, or in the correct size.
Thus in the new year I'm starting #ProjectFlipDot - my attempt to make my own affordable flip dot display.

ngl, it's good that I'm forced to go through all my links and stuff again - a massive number of them have rotten and needed to be replaced. Unfortunately not all of them were recoverable.. :(

For reasons mostly out of my control I decided to redo my website - this time myself and from scratch, because I can't be arsed to use #Wordpress anymore. It's just a static page anyways, so I might as well.

Sneak preview for the next #tunnelrats update.
Update 1.1 will target MC 1.21.5 for now - maybe also 1.21.6 if mojang didn't break too much. But unfortunately it's not just an MC update I need to work on for the next update... π

Man I love #regex find&replace! I 100% wouldn't have updated this map if it was all in command blocks.
(it started with close to 900 results - and it only took me a few minutes to get to 200 remaining. It's only so slow because I'm looking over each file real quick to see if it missed anything)

A screenshot of the description of the released datapack version on modrinth.
Version title: 1.21.5 Update & Diagonals
Followed by various buttons to download, edit, and more.
Followed by a changelog with this content
- Updated to 1.21.5
- Added diagonal checks (for better coverage on trees like acacia or jungle)
- Added Mangrove Roots to timber-able blocks.
My Vanilla #Timber datapack was (finally) updated to 1.21.5 today.
It was not only a compatibility update, it also brought diagonal block checks for trees like acacia or jungle and added Mangrove Roots to the blocks you can use Timber on.

I played a few (more than pictured) so that you don't have to. They are mediocre flash games at the absolute best. They all have big "mobile game ad" energy.
I don't understand how you launch a feature like that with a bad lineup like this?
I guess I might just not be the target audience...

(There is so much going on! Attached is the

It does have a certain charm to it. Even me, who very much prefers small towns over big cities, can see that.
