Something I kind of like about the median bus stations is its very in your face for drivers. Hard to say "no one uses the bus" when you watch 5 people cross the street in front of you.
...and "The Intersect" isnt even open yet!
yes, before on the left. Many intersections along this path bend into the street like this. This signal is one of the last remnants of this design that needs to be updated. (the link is just east of the images above)

The straight path offset from the street and a level crossing here has been a huge improvement!
We are embracing bend outs over bend-ins.
Heres the before and after after a path realignment.
Are the left turns actuated?
I've defended our strategy of buses follow the left turns over the median bus lane because our TSP system can truncate those phases earlier if they are leading left turns than if they are lagging left turns and we have pedestrian overlap clearance times to consider.
List of projects Congress has identified for FY 2027 funding. Source: https://www.congress.gov/119/crec/2026/01/22/172/15/CREC-2026-01-22-pt2-PgH1353-2.pdf
The Trump administration has yet to sign a contract for a single new transit project www.urban.org/urban-wire/r...
Even so, Congress designated 21 transit projects for funding in a recent spending bill.
I did a little more investigation to understand the status of some of these projects π§΅
Preparing for a discussion on why we struggle at certain high speed and volume intersections to meet warrant if the main reason is fear of safety from people walking.
Sorry, better get in a car if you want that signal!
Had my first test today at lunch with some coworkers. Ive got to figure out one tiebreaker situation and pay attention to scoring as I fear each hand may end up too similar as is. Rules around the emergency vehicle may help with this.
One push of a button at the controller can make a big difference for one push of a button by the user.

If you went on a bike tour of your city where you got to talk about traffic signals...what would you want to see and discuss?
Awesome! Congratulations and welcome Sun Prairie!
Goal: have this game ready by NACTO.
First Step: quick prototype
Preach! Will the EMS department back this up with data?
We've met human needs!
Humans need Transit Signal Priority!
Thank you!
We got a thing with our names on it for being good at Transit Signal Priority tonight. πππ¦
Forgot to post the games played last Tuesday at our public game night.
Mamma Mia (Uwe Rosenberg)
Agricola (Uwe Rosenberg, no pic)
Moon Colony Bloodbath (D. Vaccario)
And pitched my trick taking traffic signal themed game I hope to have ready for NACTO.
Imagine staying on until the end only to find the item you wanted to comment on is no longer a thing.
*add lane condition (not add label)
Not an add label condition? Still not impossible, but you now need to start using ped overlaps and dummy phases with isolated ped button wiring and logic steps. But two way ped movements are possible!
Phew!
In an add lane condition, you can pull out the slip lane and ped phases into ring 3 and run it independent of the rest of the signal. Want the peds on a hot button? Easy!
But you need two pieces of information on direction and potentially a large refuge island.
Slip lanes are unpopular...but they're also hard to make work well for pedestrians as considering 4 different movements can be nearly impossible.
Which has almost led me to believe the best slip lane for peds is in an add lane condition.
We need to bring back more traffic signal informational videos!
Our one and only half signal/PHB was installed about 14 years ago.

I get great joy loading my 12 8'boards into my sedan comfortably and watching truck owners not able to do the same in their trucks.
Traffic signal controllers are so much fun. This is a very simple logic statement that just says 'if that button is pushed when a certain phase is timing, call a different ped phase'.
This saves a lot of time for the person crossing, and is pretty easy to implement.

...that phase to activate the red truncation operation.
The BEST scenario for our setup is to have an optional leading transit phase in addition to the coordinated transit phase. EWA - First was great for this...but then had the issue of drivers jumping the gun and causing collisions.
I still say that it's beneficial to start with the left turning vehicles for how we sequence our signals. The left turn phase can gap out and is a variable timer for the adjacent ped interval.
If lagging, it cannot gap out and the ped phase ending is fixed meaning no opportunity for shortening....
