a lot of creators are actually glad to see their work reposted like this. a lot of them, like i used to, think the exposure is a net positive when all the evidence shows it actually has a minimal effect on future growth for most people, and has a negative effect on the specific video.
in this episode, big wow streamer watches an hour long plus masterpiece and reuploads it with the same exact title while saying "that's what I've been saying" every few minutes.
unfortunately reaction content does *really* well relative to required effort. WoW is a much more mainstream category so you see a lot more of the "meta" streamer strategies from those creators.
i will always be against uploading "Reactions" to youtube. if you want to react live, that's one thing worth discussing, but reposting a real creator's content to leech their views and revenue is just fucked.
big wow streamer takes a video, reacts to it live and uploads his reaction with the EXACT SAME TITLE as the original with his name added to the end.
this video from a much larger creator now has the advantage in the algorithm against the person who scripted, recorded, and edited original content.
it's definitely not hollow, but weekly lockouts for sure harsh the vibe of an MMO for me. I *want* to engage more with the game because it's good!

i think now that sailing is mostly seen positively it can interact with other parts of the game. on release it was safer to keep isolated in case players hated it.

TBC Classic is a super fun expansion to play through if you can find a close-knit community because I swear no game has a more toxic average player than WoW classic (except league of legends)

Yeah it's really about controlling the narrative. They want to be able to show and twist only statistics that show growth on a quarterly report. You can't really spin low player counts if your game runs into that problem.
i wish more MMOs were public about their player counts. Being to see OSRS's player count over time and at certain milestones is a really useful tool and it'd be nice to see that for other games.
