It’s historical fiction meets lit-fic meets fantasy meets romance about a gay dog walker who falls through time and ends up in the medieval era. There’s humour, apathy and 1300s brutality. So far it’s kind of bleak, but kind of lovely, all told through a stream of consciousness… and also apparently there are Dragons. George Falls Through Time comes out on 12th March 2026 “Newly laid off George’s internet bill is in his ex-boyfriend’s name. He’s got a spider-infested apartment, and two of the six dogs he’s walking in London have just escaped. It’s pure undiluted stress that sends him into a spiral, all the way to the year 1300. When he comes to, George recognizes the same rolling hills of Greenwich Park. But the luxuries and phone service of modernity are nowhere. In their place are locals with a bizarre, slanted speech in awe of his foreign clothes, who swiftly toss him in a dungeon.”

Blurb: In this landmark work, Jason Okundaye meets an elder generation of Black gay men and finds a spirited community full of courage, charisma and good humour, hungry to tell its past - of nightlife, resistance, political fights, loss, gossip, sex, romance and vulgarity. Through their conversations he seeks to reconcile the Black and gay narratives of Britain, narratives frequently cleaved as distinct and unrelated. Tracing these men's journeys and arrivals to South London through the seventies, eighties and nineties from the present day, Okundaye relays their stories with rare compassion, listening as they share intimate memories and reflect upon their lives. They endured and fought against the peak of the AIDS epidemic, built social groups and threw underground parties; they went to war with institutions (and with each other) and created meaning within a society which was often indifferent to their existence.
I’m currently listening to REVOLUTIONARY ACTS by Jason Okundaye. It’s a great look into black gay British history, told through interviews with an older generation of black gay men, largely based in Brixton, who grew up in the 70s, 80s & 90s.
