when iPad was new two guys competed to see who could type on its screen keyboard faster, one person got more words in but with a lot of errors, to which the other guy replied if errors don't matter I can type a whole lot faster

My new mantra courtesy of the @outersloth.com talk
Not a GDC, but I got a new haircut #WhatAGameDevLooksLike
I am Aender, I work as Environment and Prop artist, but also develop my own indie projects.
Every year, #WhatAGameDevLooksLike is a highlight for me. I donโt post my picture because Iโm a White cis male, and a lot of game dev looks like me.
But, I love, love, love all the people claiming their space. Yโall are awesome. Thanks for showing up.
We 3D now baybeyyyy
Game development is a process where you move a slider to full, then grudgingly move it down by 5% every week until others can stand the output.
Techbros will latch on to a very uninteresting solution to a made up problem and use it as their pitch. Same as it ever was.
See also: "what if you could buy a sword in one game and use it or sell it on another one?" , as I mentioned before when talking about blockchain dumdumbs

Also, I clearly remember the blockchain bros back in 2018 on the expo floor doing the "you can use your sword from game A and trade it on game B" spiel and being shut down by every dev that explained how that would not work as intended from every angle possible.
Tweet vs Reality coming in fast.
GDC always has the latest techbro bs that every gamedev that has been around long enough knows is the "grift du jour".
There's always some flavor of it and we all ignore them at the booths and sessions.
We need that intel Dora.
Do tell.
If AAA can do it so can you, indie folks!
โ๏ธ= team care
Gotta team up. Got the Latam region covered, fam.

A photo of the Yerba Buena Gardens. Food stands are set up with picnic tables
FYI for folks at homeโthe gardens arenโt blocked off. Now that setupโs complete, the barriers are behind the food stands for health/safety reasons.
The area will stay open the rest of the day after lunch wraps up.
Honestly it's very professional to admit having fucked up...
Letsgoooooo
Good advice. Be human, prioritise other humans rather than โcelebsโ, respect your weak human body.
Oh boy!
That's ... a choice... as all the ones GDC has been doing as of late.
Just.. ๐ฌ
The original Scott Pilgrim game has a bit of a Jet Set Radio syndrome where everything about it is amazing ~except~ for the gameplay.
All classic Battletoads suffer from this too, but mostly due to its one-gimmick-per-level approach that honestly was always more miss than hit.
Yeah in part.
Small talk is also a vibe check in general. You don't really care about the weather, just want to see if they're cool.
At least in these groups you have the obvious talking point of "our kids" and other school shenanigans.
This is an exaggeration of course. There are a couple more nerds around too.
However what I find odd is that at times I have more common talking points with the moms than with the dads... you know, because of the sportsballs.
a four-panel stick-figure cartoon panel one: three standing figures. from left to right, a guy wearing a necktie looking at his phone, an angry MAGA guy yelling FUCK YOUR FUCKIN POST FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU, and a rando just standing there like an NPC. panel two: the guy looking at his phone shows MAGA guy his hand, causing MAGA to vanish. the word Block hangs in the air where fuckface once was. a green-bordered in-game message appears, reading "+2 Mental Health." now the rando is suddenly interested. panel three: as our man continues doom-scrolling, a sly grin on his face, the rando on the right puts on a punch-me face and snarls: "Typical lefty, blocking everyone who disagrees with-" panel four phone guy shows the hand to punch-me face, causing the rando to vanish. the word Block hangs in the air where that dickhead was. a green-bordered in-game message appears again, reading "+2 Mental Health."
Me in my daughter's School Dads Group:
"So.. football, am I right?..."
*nervoursly sipping beer and letting them talk to try and catch glimpses of common ground*
Straight up confession of both homophobia and willingly accepting to become irrelevant. While your mother company's most popular animation in decades (Frozen) has been read as coming out stories and so has the latest craze from a rival studio in Kpop Demon Hunters.
