👋
But how will I find bizarrely sexual weirdos to mute then? Or to see the same posts as in my following tab, but just in a weird order?
Truly draconian.
Bangor, Maine really turned out:
Now we are cooking!
Having some fun with openomf mod support: behold an 8-bit (ish) version! Music from www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w92...
One must fall 2097 stadium arena with upscaled sprite assets.
This might look like a complete disaster (and it kind of is) but it's also OpenOMF loading 4x upscaled background and sprite assets from the new mod support I'm building. Still gotta fix transparency on the sprites and fix the internal rendering to render at more than 320x200... #omf2097 #openomf
OpenOMF 0.8.4 is out! github.com/omf2097/open...

#OMF2097 after 30 years new secret codes have been discovered!
ALT+E+D and ALT+F+T
Why does the BSoD have an emoji on it now?
The sheer amount of subtle errors in the One Must Fall 2097 animation script tags is starting to feel like a crude, but incredibly effective, obfuscation system. Tags that don't exist, tags incorrectly duplicated, tags with no meaning in this context, invalid frame IDs we've got them all! #omf2097
Added experimental spectator mode support to OpenOMF's netplay. The spectator runs a bit behind to avoid running out of event buffer. #omf2097
We're just that good!
Working on spectator mode for OpenOMF network play and I just had a great idea for a feature:
Turns out video game rollback netcode is a lot like byzantine fault tolerant systems; they are really good at sort of working despite the bugs and that can make it very hard to troubleshoot them.
I don't know how @legendaryblueshirt.bsky.social did it, but he implemented pretty much all the missing animation tags for OpenOMF this weekend, which makes a bunch of the complicated stuff like Pyros' scrap/destruct work now! The road to 1.0 just got a lot shorter! #omf2097
Alas, I have but one like to give this post.
How much time could a game mechanic take to get right, Michael? 15 minutes?
If you want to experience the chaos yourself, grab this release candidate: github.com/omf2097/open... some random tournaments from omf.niraj.ws/2097tourn.htm
Everything was going so well, until we tried to make the fan made tournaments work... One Must Fall 2097 #omf2097
we have never needed old fighting games more than we need them right now
0.8.0 just came out and it should work out of the box on the steamdeck (controller support was an issue before). I'm working on a quick 0.8.1 bugfix release to fix some late breaking issues we found, but it should be pretty playable on anything that supports flatpaks now.
Loading up 30 year old fan created One Must Fall 2097 tournaments to test OpenOMF can handle them (and it kind of can now).
We've put a ton of work into this, I hope you'll consider checking it out and sharing it!
This game never fails to surprise me with how it's held together.
Now, to balance my timeline, here's some pictures of me sawmilling some beams with my homemade sawmill:
Wrote my first blog post in 7 years, and wrote it about the open source video game remake that's been a part of my last 20 years: vagabond.github.io/programming/... We've made a ton of progress recently and I finally see light at the end of the long, long tunnel.
Probably time to actually post from this account. You may know me (formerly) as @potsdamnhacker on Twitter; distributed systems engineer, Erlang fanboy, retro gaming and computing nerd and obsessive One Must Fall 2097 fan. Been spending time lately working on the OpenOMF remake and building a barn.
