Fun fact: there's ONE genre of movie where female characters are ten times more likely to be the lead character, speak more (words or time speaking), appear on screen for longer, wear more clothes and make more profitable movies.

My rule of thumb is to have two books on the go: one fiction, one non-fiction.

Ideally they should either complement or directly contrast each other to help keep moving but that's not the hard and fast rule because sometimes I breeze through 4 NFs in the time it takes me to read 1 F and vice versa.

I've been running gdcparties.com for a few years now. Some shitty company BlueberryAI decided they'd just take all the source code for the work I've done and reskin it, advertising it as their own. Jokes on them...it was still linked to my events spreadsheet, and now their website looks like this πŸ˜‰

ok pals, please hold your thumbs for me, I’ve applied for a job at the London Film Festival that I’m grossly over qualified for, but would a) get me working b) get me involved with film stuff, my beloved.
If y’all can pray to any gods /goddesses you believe in, that would be gratefully appreciated.❀️

You cannot talk like this about any other minority in America.

And if it was any other president’s adviser who said something like this about any other minority, it’d be the instant end of their presidency.

Yeah, but can our schools and our NHS cope with this influx of 200,000 people coming from a Muslim country? 😜

God, I love BlueSky. Someone said Lucian Freud was on at the National Gallery and when I said it was at the Portrait Gallery they chewed my head off. Here it's adults with dry wit, emotional intelligence and manners.

Omg. A BBC correspondent just bitchslapped Kier Starmer with some cold facts and he looks kicked in the balls.

BBC: "Nobody likes you. You tried to win Reform votes and failed. You lost the Muslim vote. Doesn't this prove that there is no change coming from Labour?"

Ouch. 🀣

I am conscious of this but again that's outsourcing the blame for his poor behaviour to others. There are lots of people who have shit upbringings and don't behave like this.

They do the work and become productive members of society.

It's interesting to see so many people speculating about what Muslims collectively think about the Greens' stance on trans people's rights and whether that could be a problem for their strategy while the Tories fielded a gender crit and absolutely ate shit.

To be absolutely clear: this is the lowest percentage of the vote in a by-election for the Conservatives or Tories since the party was founded at the time of the Glorious Revolution in 1689.

underappreciated but very funny gorton and denton sideplot: the conservatives nominating literal sex matters (uk terf group) trustee charlotte cadden, only for her to get the worst result for the conservatives in by-election history and lose her deposit

The Mini-MAGAs of Reform UK want to launch their own version of ICE, to be called UK Deportation Command. Their Shadow Home Secretary (their term) Zia Yusuf says the aim is to deport 280,000 people a year.

As imaginative as their failed attempt to set up DOGE in English councils.

BROOKE GLADSTONE:
The Inquiry brought up the case of Denholm Elliott's daughter -
PAUL McMULLAN:
Oh, yeah -
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
- which is one case that you truly do regret.
PAUL McMULLAN:
I do, yeah. After Denholm died, she hit rock bottom, was allegedly doing methadone. And although she had, you know, the half-million-pound flat that Denholm had bought her, she didn't have any money to get her ten-pound bag in the morning. So she'd get up and go begging at the tube station.
Here was a young girl crying out to be helped, and she met a police officer who didn't help her but rang up the News of the World and asked for money because he couldn't believe that this is the same girl who'd walked down the red carpet behind Eddie Murphy with Denholm Elliott, you know.

BROOKE GLADSTONE:
And you offered her 50 pounds -
PAUL MCMULLAN:
Yeah.
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
- if she would come to your place and have sex. So you led her into prostitution, which she wasn't in that space for.
PAUL McMULLAN:
No, indeed. But she was in such a bad place that someone offering her 50 pounds for sex. I mean, that's five bags.

BROOKE GLADSTONE:
So how do you justify that? Yes, she was a drug addict, yes, she was begging. Why push her that extra step? Why take pictures of her topless?
PAUL McMULLAN:
I was keen. It was in my first year. I wanted to impress Piers Morgan, who was my boss at the time, and just wanted to say, not only have I caught this girl begging, but l've got pictures of her topless and I've got her offering me sex for 50 quid. How great am I?
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
This is a pretty dehumanizing enterprise, not just for Jennifer Elliott, but for you, yourself.
PAUL McMULLAN:
Yeah, that's why I feel terrible about it, not just 'cause she killed herself afterwards, but I, I actually liked her as a person.

Sharing from a friend, a passage from the Leveson Inquiry regarding the British actor Denholm Elliott, who died of AIDS in 1992. Three years after her death, the News of the World journalist Paul McMullan did the following to his daughterβ€”neither a celebrity nor even someone of public interest.

OK, everyone who's pointed out that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor hasn't been arrested for sex crimes can I please remind you that Al Capone went to jail, not for bootlegging, bombing, murder, blackmail, torture, shootings or the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre but for TAX EVASION.

Jail is jail.
