Been offline mostly the last few days, dealing with kidney issues. Both sides are blocked by large stones so they had to put stents in to bypass it. Stents are uncomfortably painful & there's bleeding & lotsa bathroom trips... 😣 I managed to write a bit today, another 291 words on the pirate novel.
Aw Dave, I'm so sorry—that has to be tough. Hope you get some peace and some better sleep soon. Having my own battles right now with kidney issues on top of my severe arthritis, so I can relate.
Didn't get a chance to post the last couple days. Yesterday we celebrated two family birthdays that are a week apart. Lots of snow and ice was melting because it was a nice day for a change. Friday I put 301 words on the pirate novel and today another 420. Slow going but the scene is complex.
Day 2 of digging out, a small amount of snow fell toward morning. Unfortunately I can't do that stuff anymore.😔I did get some writing in, another 360 words on the pirate novel. It's gradually moving forward, today it broke 36,000 words. Tomorrow afternoon is fasting bloodwork so no writing for me!🙄
Lots of digging out for others (not me) and more writing today (yeah, me). I went over what I'm reading to my Zoom group tonight and then added another 500 words to the pirate novel. It's still cold, we have a LOT of snow, and I told the other half it's time we hired someone to do this for him.

Blizzard notwithstanding, I've been writing off & on, just haven't been posting much. Over the last few days I've put 419, 122, and today 411 words on the pirate novel. Still in that scene with the sack of Porto Bello. In spite my of on again, off again work, the manuscript is now over 35,000 words.
One of the pit traps with fiction in a historical setting is finding reliable information that can be corroborated. The farther back you go, the more perplexing it gets to tease out facts. A couple days ago I only put 82 words on the pirate novel. I managed 374 today. Crawling onward like a snail.🐌~
A couple interruptions and some small tasks accomplished today, but I got some writing in. Still correcting timeline things within this historical scene in the 11th pirate novel, but making good progress there. Another 410 words added as well. Getting into the thick of the action now!🏴☠️⛵⚔️
Yesterday was spent with family. 🥰 Today I put away laundry and got rid of more clothing that doesn't fit because I weigh less now. Yay me! 👏😊I did get a little rewriting in with the new info, adding another 240 words to the pirate novel.
Only 120 words written on the pirate novel today, though plenty of research was done and pages of notes got saved. Since this takes place in the mid-1600s and information is skimpy at best and conflicting, Google's AI has been helpful in sorting stuff out. Yeah I know, it wants to keep me chatting.🤷♀️
Another 300 words on the pirate novel today. I'm quitting a bit early to get in some downtime for myself. Between all the research and the dismal news, I need to find something fun to do.
Busy household right now, trying to get Lee settled in with his new used car. 🚙 So many hoops have to be jumped through! 😮💨 I did get some writing in late today while the fellas were out registering it, another 402 words made it onto the 11th pirate novel. Busy day, waiting for a used vehicle to be delivered. I had a nice chat on the phone with my 2 sons. I did get more writing in, another 777 words on the 11th pirate novel. Mostly I turned previously narrated scenes designed to get ideas down quickly into character interaction scenes.
Had to take yesterday off, we're dealing with finding a household member a used vehicle. I'm mainly a phone/email contact during the process & I'll handle the financial obligation. Back at writing today, where another 301 words made it on the 11th pirate novel. Finally making progress ln this scene!
Only 230 words on the pirate novel today. I was doing fine until I couldn't find a description or portrait of another well-known pirate of the era who traveled with Henry Morgan—Edward Collier. Once I check the background literature in depth, I suppose I'll make a guess at what he looked like.
A few days off when life kinda intruded. Yet I did get some writing in today, another 790 words on the 11th pirate novel. (That's the 10th above⬆️) Still working on the raid with Captain Morgan. I could use some rum right now—this is a tough chapter!

Only 330 words on the pirate novel today, but a lot of research. Trying to find describable locations for Henry Morgan's raid, I bought a 99¢ copy of Equemelin's book (he's in this story too) and after getting some Wikipedia info, had to rely on Google AI to hel me find sources. Historical fiction!🙄
Took yesterday off to get things done. Tax time is not that far off and I did some email excision. I did some work on the pirate novel today, though more research than writing. Trying to trace a historic route and make it more personal to the characters involved is tough! Only 250 words added.

Back on the pirate novel today. Yesterday I laid in some historical groundwork for a regular side character traveling with Henry Morgan on one of his famous raids. Today I began making it more personal to this character, adding in another 1,150 words. I'm taking a painterly approach here. 🧑🎨✍️😉🏴☠️
Better writing day today, another 630 words added to the pirate novel in progress. I'm in a historical scene right now from a secondary character's POV, so I'm going slowly, working in point-to-point details. This is a side story, but will become important to my MC down the line in a future book.
Started on the pirate novel yesterday, going over the last section of Chapter 3 adding 150 words. When staring at the header for Chapter 4, I knew what I wanted to do, but couldn't get anything on the page. Same thing almost happened today, but I researched and then added 107 scene starting words. 😌
Another 1090 words on the fantasy novel today. I'll be taking a break from that tomorrow to go over what I'm reading to my Zoom writing group, then back to the pirate novel on Thursday.

Another 960 words on the fantasy novel today. Late start but that happens when you have a ❤️to❤️ talk late at night with the other half about retirement. We'll see how that goes; it's been discussed before. Just one more potential change coming at some point...
Got some writing done this afternoon, more than I expected at first. Another 1,010 words made it onto the fantasy novel. The words are coming—that's what makes books happen.✍️🙂
Didn't get a chance to post last night, I worked right up until dinner. Similar situation tonight, but I left my computer on. I added 400 words yesterday and 1,150 today to the fantasy novel, now approaching 47,000 words. After the news watched Spaceballs with family. I needed a few laughs...
