I just recently learned that episode 54 of the anime Kochikame focuses on a character becoming obsessed with playing "Dokidoki Memorial", a parody of Tokimeki Memorial. This episode aired in 1997, two years after Tokimeki blew up in the mainstream after the release of the PlayStation port in 95.
