Sharded repodata in conda (beta): an order of magnitude faster | conda.org Conda fetches repodata much more quickly. Learn how we did it and who helped along the way.

Congratulations to our friends at Anaconda for shipping CEP-16 (sharded repodata). If you use conda-forge from anaconda.org servers, pixi & rattler-build got magically a lot faster!

This work brings CEP 16 to conda and shows what collaboration across the community can achieve.
Huge thanks to @conda-forge.org, @prefix.dev @quansight.com @quantstack.bsky.social and @anacondainc.bsky.social for making this possible. ❤️

Anaconda.org A community-led collection of recipes, build infrastructure, and distributions for the conda package manager.

As part of this beta, shards, which were already available in the prefix.dev channels, are now served by anaconda.org for @conda-forge.org channel.
✦ Conda users can now opt in to see 10x speedups when using conda-forge.
✦ Pixi and rattler-build already support this, so they benefit immediately!

Anaconda.org and conda adopt sharded repodata! 🚀

CEP 16, introduced by @prefix.dev, splits the massive repodata files into per-project shards. This allows clients to only fetch what they need, resulting in significant speedups!

Conda ≠ PyPI: Why Conda Is More Than a Package Manager | conda.org Part 1 of the 'Conda Is Not PyPI' series—why conda is a multi-language user-space distribution, not just a Python package manager.

Conda ≠ PyPI

Conda isn’t just another Python package manager-it’s a multi-language, user-space distribution system.

In this 3-part series, we explore the fundamental differences between conda and PyPI.

Use conda without messing with your shell profiles - rjai.me - A personal blog about scientific software, music and miscellanea conda famously modifies shell profiles like .bashrc, or even the Windows registry, to register a series of shell functions that make it, allegedly, more accessible and user-friendly. Allegedly. After ...

I wrote a new blog post about using `conda` without any kind of shell modifications.

Just the Python entry point directly. No ~/.bashrc or Windows registry edits! Simply one more entry in PATH.
