A thing I'm realizing is a lot of people see a car or an airplane in a game as a way to get their character somewhere else, and not as the gameplay itself.

This isn't to say that it's not good to have wide breadth of knowledge and experience, but 'the youth are wrong, they need to look at the real classics' like I saw some people posting to this is absolutely off.

Or to put it another way, it's staggering how many things people hold up as as absolute classics where made because the creator was really into some 'low culture creation' from their childhood. Pulp novels and radio serials that were never meant to be more than disposable.

If you want to talk about why media landscapes keep regurgitating nostalgia so blatantly, it's not the fault of artists not looking 'outside' (whatever that means when anything can be outside for someone depending on their own experience).

It's because various media companies own the rights to certain properties and want them (or things very similar to them) to be made into perpetuity for the sake of profit.

I kind of hate how everyone claps along to this whenever if comes around when, if you think about it, it's the most boomer-ass take possible.
