this! we’ve been on the front lines. we know what moves and motivates students. we would be a spectacular resource for most universities. so it really makes me wonder why so many administrators like these authors default to, “faculty are an obstruction to our success.”

Headed home from the Peace and Conflict Studies pedagogy event in Boulder. The security line at DIA is very long and snakes back and forth so every five minutes I had to see this asshole and his shirt.

I know it's a silly jokey joke, but people REALLY need to stop anthropomorphizing their boyfriends. "My boyfriend told me" your boyfriend didn't "tell" you anything. "My boyfriend thinks..." your boyfriend can't actually think or feel; just output a convincing simulation of it based on probability 🙄

Judge Orders Colorado to Stop Throwing Prisoners in Solitary for Refusing to Work Years after voters amended the state’s constitution to ban forced labor in prison, a court ruling could finally make Colorado change how prison guards “compel and coerce” work.

Colorado is the first state where advocates have secured a court ruling forcing prison officials to stop using solitary confinement to compel labor from incarcerated people. “It’s exciting and it’s amazing,” says one advocate in the state.

Epistemic Injustice: The Great Gaslighting of Autistic Lives Epistemic injustice is the assumption that people, usually those with less power, are unable to correctly understand their own lives. It takes a tragic toll on autistic lives.

The problem with too many autism professionals:

"Epistemic injustice sounds abstract, but for many in the autistic community, this is the story of being told, over and over, 'We know you better than you know yourself.'” TY, @ludmilapraslovaphd.bsky.social:

The Iconic Civil Rights Protest You Don't Know | American Experience | PBS Meet the protesters who crawled their way into history—and changed how all Americans live.

Today is the 36th anniversary of the Capitol Crawl and disabled people are still fighting for basic rights in a society that's actively working to undermine them, surrounded by systemic disablism.

(This is a corrected thread TY to the person who flagged that I said 26th, not 36th!)

There is something pleasing about the fact that none of these people realize they could just buy a pair that matches what they were given, but fit. Like they could go to a mall.

I guess it's time to close up shop here...

This article acts like everyone in the PCR community in the US just says, "look, our government is gonna kill people, so what can we do?" That is Unrest erasure!

Read the response from Mercy Fekadu Mulugeta, too.

Parents: Don't Hide Your Children's Autism Diagnosis From Them — THINKING PERSON'S GUIDE TO AUTISM since I didn’t know about my autism diagnosis, I just assumed there was something wrong with me and that I deserved what I got.

Parents, pls tell your autistic kids they are autistic: "You may think that an autistic child won’t notice they are different than their non-autistic peers; I have not met one autistic person (me included) who hasn’t noticed their difference early in life."

I learned even and odd numbers last time (rationing in Delaware used the last digit of licence plates and I "helped" my parents). I wonder what new thing I will learn this time.

An original Nashville sit-in member, along with Diane Nash, James Bevel, and John Lewis. Trained in non-violence by James Lawson. At age 21, he signed a will before the Freedom Rides, knowing he could die.

May his soul be at peace, and may we all have such courage in the face of oppression.

People ask what it is exactly we expect of Dems in this situation, and for me it's this.

Make these assholes fucking scared.

Make it clear that they are on borrowed time, that consequences WILL arrive, and that they will be harsh.

Just saw this in the FT, too. I'm not sure how we are supposed to live in a world where one county can assassinate the leader of another and no one does anything about it. Heckofa semester to be teaching human rights and the international system.

Came across the phrase "cognitive DDOS" to describe our present culture.

Understood instantly what it meant.

I couldn't teach in FL because I don't know the difference between discussions that suggest, argue, state, and describe. Oh, and because this is completely wrong.

New — This was projected on the US Institute of Peace building this evening ahead of the first meeting tomorrow of Trump’s farcically-named “Board of Peace.”

Photo taken by person who was over there tonight. Unclear who’s behind the projection.

Married To The Sea by @drewtoothpaste - back in the office

Instead of grading, I am enjoying the fact that my brain, which can't tell live humans apart, immediately recognized this clip art from Married to the Sea from 2025 as one of the guys from Get Your War On, even though GTWO ended 15 years ago. Wikipedia helpfully tells me it's from a book from 1998.

Fights, Games, and Debates A scientifically grounded method by which we can understand human conflict in all its forms

Anatol Rappoport was good on this issue by differentiating between debates (opponents try to persuade each other), games (opponents try to win, within rules) and fights (opponents try to win without rules). A lot of politics seems to be people thinking they are in a debate when it is a fight.

Yeah, hi, I’m a person with “mobility challenges” (excuse me while I hurl). What we want, by and large, are not expensive, heavy devices that will “help us walk again”, but ramps.

I know, it’s not sexy, as technology invented before Christ, but it is overlooked in favor of…this. Repeatedly.

The ONLY WAY we get out of our current mess is by caring about everyone. Switching the targets of fascism doesn't end fascism. If both political parties embrace full throated fascism, we're not left with any electoral options, and a lot more regular people will embrace their own bigotry.

So my daughter is going to the Twice concert tonight for her birthday with friends and one of those friends is sick and had to cancel. I am now going to the Twice concert tonight as well. I have only the vaguest understanding of what Twice is.
