I used to know who basically every fursuit builder was, I left the fandom for a few years and now there's literally dozens of talented new builders that I've never heard of before. I just keep finding more. Like what do you mean you have an entire gallery and I've never heard of you before??
You even #fursuitfriday bro?

More people on tiktok trying to sell fursuits they didn't make ๐
I know exactly how it feels to look at the trend and wonder how long it's going to be before you can't survive anymore, but next data point on the graph isn't guaranteed. Your life will go where your attention is focused, so let it be on hope instead of fear. The things we love won't be taken away.
This is pretty much exactly where I was at before I started making the dumb animals, except with a full mostly-paid commission queue and several clients demanding refunds. Took 6+ months to sell a fullsuit for half (or less) of what other builders were getting for their mini partials.

When people say fursuits aren't worth the price, what they actually mean is "I can't afford to buy it and my only way to cope with that is to pretend like it's not worth it so I don't have to feel sorry for myself"
I get it, but I still don't need to hear it.
Of the people who've made comments about how much they wish they could just do what I do for a living because it sounds so fun and easy, 100% of the people that have actually attempted to learn have come back and said that it's SIGNIFICANTLY harder than they assumed based off of watching me do it.
It's wild to many how many people decide that something needs to be completely destroyed just because they don't like it or they had a bad experience, especially when you notice how many people (consciously or not) have already decided to insist on having a bad time.
Please give it the classic big fat chubby gator neck, I'm begging you ๐ญโฅ๏ธ
I REALLY wish that it wouldn't go from 0 to 100 like it does when people start making complaints about something. Negative feedback shouldn't be a permanent condemnation, and if people were kinder and more forgiving then it wouldn't be as scary to make mistakes or be in a rough patch.
I'm glad to hear that! I'm super rooting for them to get what they need in order to stay on top of the game. Their furs are beautiful and the selection is awesome.
I've been fortunate to have not had the kinds of issues that required emailing with them but I know that being able to get in touch with someone sooner tends to diffuse a LOT of the tensions and concerns. It can be so hard to catch up once you get behind.
I've made mistakes like this as a business owner so I know from experience what it's like to be on the other side of something like this. But my business would have gone under of I hadn't decided to acknowledge and fix the problems, which is all we want with Howl.
OK, so since one of the most common complaints that people are making is that Howl doesn't check/reply to their emails... What happens when they screw up one of your orders and then don't answer your email for multiple months?
Also I'm assuming that the entire order wasn't wrong when there was a mistake, but 2 orders a year x 4 years is 8 orders, if 2 of those 8 orders have mistakes then that means that 25% of the orders you've received have been inaccurate. A 25% failure rate is astonishingly high.
I'd be interested in knowing what a large shipment for you is, if you feel like sharing? I've placed dozens of orders with BigZ over the last several years, multiple hundreds of yards of fabric total during that period of time, and so far BigZ has never once made a mistake with any of my orders.
I'm not condemning them as a business, to be clear. Right now I need suppliers I can depend on and Howl doesn't fit the bill, when they get things to a stable/reliable point I'll GLADLY, enthusiastically give them my business again. But I can't afford the risk of waiting a month for the wrong fur.
I haven't ordered from them in quite a while, but the last time I placed an order there was definitely no indication displayed prominently that there would be a 2-3 week processing time. I understand that they're also at the mercy of their manufacturers for when they're able to restock.
Well and as a small business owner I also empathize with and understand how hard it can be to keep up with client communication, and how hard it is to catch back up when you let it go for too long. Unfortunately it's hard to fix a problem if you're not willing to acknowledge that there is one.
I'm already behind on my queue, unexpected added wait time for materials means getting further behind. Delays compound, clients get unhappy, unhappy clients cancel and want refunds, and as a small business there's only so much refunding we can withstand without the risk of going under.
All of the furs I've gotten from them have been good quality, but having to wait a completely unknown amount of time for supplies to come in causes all sorts of problems. An extra 3 weeks for something to ship means 3 more weeks of not being able to work on things that need to get done.
They have a lot of really beautiful furs and they'd have me as a loyal customer despite the higher prices if they fixed some stuff, but right now people need to feel like they can rely on someone for the resources they need and Howl hasn't been meeting that need and people are panicking.
I get that people tend to dogpile on stuff like this but Howl was one of the main fur suppliers for the industry and depending on a company that ends up being unreliable and unpredictable is so stressful, especially because they're the only ones that carry some of the furs we need.
Honestly the last several experiences I had with Howl were bad. Taking MULTIPLE weeks to ship out orders, sending out swatches of stuff they have almost no stock of without warning, taking ages to get fabric back in stock with super vague estimates and then little or no updates.
