Then you have to pick an OS. Ranges from"just you and an ssh cli" to kiosk style "pick your apps in a web frontend and never see a terminal"
Unless you are already a sysadmin, i'd recommend starting somewhere closer to a kiosk, eg Zima or Umbrel. Truenas Scale if you want more freedom.
Hardware wise i think using something you have beats buying something in the current market. The laptop should have an rj45 network port (you can add one with a usb adapter but ugh).
If you want to buy something it depends on what you plan to host on it. I'd say at least 4 cores and 16gb ram
It's very easy to self-host too. I recently added it to my home-lab in 2 clicks (and a little reverse proxy configuration).
Biggest todo on the list right now:

> We are now at the end of February and neither the January nor the February tranches have been delivered to this day.
And i doubt they will be anytime soon, if at all. Likely already "sold" to a higher bidder. Question is, will they get them or is it just phantom stock at this point?
As a formal methods PhD, it's embarrassing for Anthropic to incorrectly describe static analysis in their Claude Code Security announcement. Security and formal methods engineers already have data "reasoning" tools, this isn't the bottleneck, false positives, which LLMs absolutely have, is.

A political cartoon of a Trojan horse labeled βProtect Childrenβ being pulled into a city gate by figures labeled βEU Member States,β while inside the horse a panel reads βMass Surveillance,β implying hidden surveillance measures introduced under the pretext of child protection.
Today is the day, the EU decides on Chat Control 1.0. Will they let the Trojan Horse through the gate and let Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn etc continue to scan all your messages?
We at Tuta say NO.Β
β No scanning
β No mass surveillance
β No age verification
Don't like the age verification that Discord announced? Looking for a Discord alternative? I sure have been! I've gone ahead and put together a list of alternatives and their fitness for use in communities big and small.

A Chatto post where I'm gushing about the amount of JS transferred by Chatto when you load it. "This is still one of my favorite properties of Chatto. That's the amount of (compressed) JS transferred from the server to the client after a hard reload. For comparison, Slack and Discord are at around 10 MB each. [screenshot showing 31.7 kB of 112 kB transferred] This is the amount of JS transferred on a normal visit (with a warm browser cache.) [screenshot showing 0.0 kB / 80 kB transferred] (The first number is the amount of JS transferred. The second number is the total resources; fonts, images, etc.)"
Thanks Svelte
This is huge news!! Super excited to be working with @ariperkkio.dev β€οΈ
ESLint v10 ships with a Node.js version requirement that necessitates `require(esm)`, yet the package remains CJS only.
Why?
Yes, in the best way.
