The physios were on the field 4 times in the first 18 minutes. That's incredible! Once every 4.5 minutes. We also had a Paolo Di Canio moment (he certainly was a sportsman) and China won comfortably. Who's loving the AFC Asian Cup? Bloody oath!

Has there been a pile-on? I haven't experienced that, and if this reads like I was expecting a total turnaround last night, that's not the intention. Perhaps the optimist in me is waning - that first goal would have tested the patience of a saint.

Thanks Cat, no expectations of a turnaround; this was more of a continuation of what we've seen already this season and last. Nobody is giving up on the coach - we haven't even seen him yet. Don't think the young lady I saw collecting cones was Vic Guzman, seemed a lot younger.

Book Review – Metro, this way!: An Aussie at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by Texi Smith – FOOTBALL BOOK REVIEWS (FBR) With the 23rd FIFA World Cup fast approaching, anticipation is building ahead of a tournament that will deliver several historic firsts. For the first time, three nations, Canada, Mexico, and the United States, will jointly host the event, with Mexico becoming the first country to stage three World Cup Finals (1970, 1986, and 2026). The expanded format will also see 48 teams compete across 104 matches, marking the largest edition in the competition’s history.

Yes, 2022 was a good year. The timeline between Andrew Redmayne saving that penalty and the @socceroos.bsky.social making their way to Qatar was tight, but it paved the way for a memorable 15 days in Doha.

Never to be repeated.
