It’s not just Medicaid funding they’re withholding to MN. It’s food assistance, child care assistance, social services, job training, safety testing, public health, disaster relief. SNAP. Free lunch for kids in school.
They hate us for loving our neighbors, and are collectively punishing us for it.
Whenever I get very angry with this current timeline, I donate to a rent fund.

Queer bookstores died in 2010. We had a funeral and everything!
Except... a ton of people decided to roll up their sleeves and start *new* queer bookshops, all over the place. In cities. In tiny towns.

Writing this story made me happy in a dark time.
I talked to half a dozen people who started queer bookstores in their communities, and what I heard gave me hope.
These aren't just bookstores — they're a lifeline for people who have no place else to go.

freaky dip pen nib that looks like it's giving you the finger. no idea what that's all about.
I got some dip pen nibs today. can anyone explain what the nib throwing the bird is for, and why it's designed that way?
Two paintings on a single page, divided in two horizontally. This represents the very first pale wash of colour. The top painting has a contour line, the bottom does not. there are differences in the huts of the various colors used, as i'm trying to work out which ones work best.
This is the same page, with some darker values places in representing the middle tones of the painting. I'm still not really happy with the results today, but i'm getting closer to what i want.

The doorway and windows are getting very acute shadows from the sun. The darker values mostly are hard edged on the right half, while the left half is softened because of the tree and blossoms.
The scene is on a street in Calades, Greece. Against a white wall, 3 chairs are lined against the wall under a window. There is a white table between two of the chairs.
First sketch of the reference. Finding the key shapes and their relationships. Messy lines showing the boundaries.
I’ve inked bolder lines to coalesce the sketch of the scene and started adding neutral tint, very watered down, to create the shadows and values.
Finished version, colors added for the tree and blossoms. A few more ink lines. Leaving much uncolored to focus the eyes.
Urban sketching in Drawing class (my favorite!). Pencil work first to practice. 2nd half straight in with ink. I try to use the single line approach, but I never make it. That means I need to simplify a lot more. Still amazing fun!

Using up scraps in my off cuts box, gluing them onto a half-sheet of mixed media paper (22x15). These may get used in other collage projects, art journals, etc. Great way to use up scraps.
Abstract city-scape using acrylic paints. Scraping across the top in black, blue, and deep red matte acrylics. Dots on bottom using the end of a chop stick. This is work in progress. Don't quite know where this will go, it might end up torn up to use in other collage paintings.
