Being positive about AI in the software space is such a weird spot to be in. Personally I love it. I've never enjoyed building more and honestly I think it has made me a better software engineer in many ways. But also the unknown of the future as a result is kind of terrifying.

Building a side project with 100% AI generated code is the starting point IMO. Everyone should try this. It's a great way to learn what the limits are and what you still need to decide vs what the AI tool can handle.

I think I'm still making a shocking amount of decisions. Lots of bug testing/back and forth around things not working the way I want, points like "this customer should see things one way, this another", thinking about maintainability and scalability, etc. Turns out the code was never the hard part 😂

I didn't plan for that. It just... happened. And honestly? There's grief in it. Years of building coding skills, and now I'm asking myself what they're worth.

But I've also never enjoyed building software more than I do right now.

Today I'm sitting on my back porch enjoying the rare March sunshine, crocheting a new project, listening to a book, and directing Copilot to update my website for me from my phone. What a time to be alive.

Next weekend is the Rose City Yarn Crawl, where I'll try to go to all 9 participating local yarn shops to buy yarn. This is probably the best event of the entire year 😍
