“Gender Goals” a comic by Jey Pawlik, is done in mint greens and choppy black lineart. Narration: As a kid I watched The Last Unicorn a LOT. A young Jey with long hair is sitting in front of an old CRT TV watching The Last Unicorn. On the screen The Unicorn ponders “What do men know? Because they have seen no unicorns for a while does not mean that we have all vanished. We do not vanish. There has never been a time without unicorns.” The TV scenes are done in a cool blue colour with a static texture overlayed on top.

Jey’s mum pokes her head in with a “!!” and is excited about this development. She flutters around little Jey and says “OH! You’re watching the unicorn movie again? Something CUTE?! Something GIRLY?! Ohhh~ I’m so happy!” much to little Jey’s annoyance. The background behind them has turned from Jey’s usual green to purple with a floral pattern.

Narration: But it wasn’t the unicorn I liked best. The movie now shows The Unicorn and Schmendrick the Magician walking together. The Unicorn says “You may come with me if you like. Though I wish you’d asked for some other reward for having freed me.” Schmendrick responds “Well, I thought about it. But you could never have granted my true wish.” The Unicorn says “No. I cannot turn you into something you are not. I cannot turn you into a true magician.” Read the rest on ohjoysextoy.com

Young @jpawlik.com was drawn to The Last Unicorn for reasons they couldn't explain and that their mother and friends definitely misunderstood. In a time before they had the vocabulary to talk about their gender, at least Jey had Schmendrick.

Digital comic done in black and white with textured greys. Narration reads "First time fishing" with Jey, a nonbinary person with big square glasses and short cropped hair wearing a t-shirt. They're reeling back with a fishing rod over a lake. They throw the line and it goes "BOING!" on the end of the rod. The lure doesn't go anywhere. Jey notices this and goes "Oh..." disappointedly as they watch the line just slowly sink down from the top of the rod towards the water. The lure "plops" into the water, where unbeknownst to Jey a fish lurks. Jey exclaims "I GOT ONE?!" as they pull the fish out of the water.

My good friend @thesandlord.bsky.social taught me how to fish this summer and this was my first time throwing a line out! It was very exciting, even if the line didn't actually go anywhere.

I got the hang of throwing the line eventually.

Oh for sure, but I've absolutely been told off before for drawing a dinosaur inaccurately. That really put me off drawing them more

Marcille: I sense a real lack of passion here. Do you really even like dragons? Laios: Err, well... um... Laios: You see, we consider dragons to be special when compared to other monsters. Marcille: Who's this "we"? Laios: In our world, if you can't identify a dragon's sex, age, and habitat just by hearing its tonguing noises... nobody will take you seriously! Laios: There are tons of people researching dragons, and new theories are proposed and refined every year. Apparently, the volume of information on dragons is comparable to our knowledge on walking mushrooms.. Marcille: Wait a second! Why do we have that much info on walking mushrooms!? Laios: I've always wanted to be a dragon lover, too! But when I look at the true dragon lovers... My own lack of knowledge disgusts me...!! Laios: There was a point in time when even seeing the word "dragon" was painful... Laios: But when we fought the real thing back there, I could feel my heart pounding away in my chest. The emotions I experienced felt so real... Laios (thinking): So I think... I really do love dragons! Marcille: We shouldn't have asked him.

Y'know I was a big dino kid growing up, and still absolutely love dinosaurs but I get so anxious drawing them due to "accuracy". I love them but not as much as folks who REALLY love them.

Much appreciated! And 2pm customer, while being a real person I interacted with, I tried to keep the vibe of them but change their looks just a bit. Not supposed to invoke Greg, but some people do just look like that.

doing research when you're an attendee at a con/show is helpful

Make sure you're looking at booths that are similar to the kinds of items YOU want to sell, instead of comparing yourself to, say, the big fanart print booths!
