It's not just Trump. I'm guessing that any politician of either party who has regular visits from fossil fuel industry lobbyists is similarly motivated to keep these cars out of the US. And they all need to be primaried by people who give a damn about the future of our planet.

I have a PHEV and love it. I occasionally have to drive a couple hundred miles in a day for work in rural areas with very limited charging options. Even decent sized cities in my area are sparse on chargers. But most of the time I can do all my driving in a day in EV mode.
