Thanks Dwayne. I’m really into this “signals” idea right now so expect more writing on it!

"I think what we’re going to need, more than anything else, is human experts who are passionate, beyond all reason, about their disciplines. This has to be true of teachers and students alike."

Indeed. #skolechat #dkforsk

Great insights.
The concept of Metis (aka sailor smarts) is important when we think about differentiation with what AI and humas can each do well.
This makes me think of Horizon scanning as well and the shift from 'prediction' to 'awareness of signals'.

Expert Signals: Why Human Expertise Matters More Than Ever AI excels at codifiable knowledge but can't transmit the situated, embodied expertise that makes human experts irreplaceable. Introducing expert signals.

New post: Expert Signals. I've been thinking about what human experts actually do that AI can't, drawing on James C. Scott's distinction between techne and metis. Read more... #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEducation #AIEdu #AIInEd #AIInEdu

What Happens to Expertise When Students Skip the Struggle? When students use GenAI to skip the hard parts of learning, they miss the productive struggle that builds genuine expertise. This post explores why the "AI is just like a calculator" argument falls short, and why novices are most at risk of outsourcing the thinking that matters most.

New post: GenAI makes it easy for students to skip the struggle, but productive struggle is where real learning happens. The students most likely to over-rely on it have the most to lose. What's the "minimum viable struggle" we need to protect? #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEducation #AIEd #AIInEd

Lived Experience Using AI as an AuDHD Adult AI is often marketed as a game-changer for neurodivergent learners, but the reality is more complicated. As someone with a combined autism/ADHD diagnosis, I explore both the genuine risks of AI for ND users, including pathologising training data and addictive design patterns, and the personal, practical ways I actually use these tools: capturing ideas on the move, voice-to-text writing, and creating social stories for navigating complex situations like conferences.

New blog post: AI as assistive technology for neurodivergent users, from someone who actually is one.
The good, the bad, and the one where someone changed the plan at the last minute. #ND #AuDHD #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEducation #AIEdu #AIInEd #AIInEdu

Letting the Robots In AI agents are increasingly browsing the web alongside humans, but most websites still serve them the same cluttered HTML designed for browsers. Here's what I've done to make this site more readable for AI systems, why I think educators should care about being AI-accessible, and why the real problem isn't scraping but the attribution gap that AI companies have chosen not to fix.

New post: the web is developing a second layer, built for AI agents instead of human browsers. I've started making my site readable for both. The real fight isn't access, it's attribution. #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEducation #AIEdu #AIInEd #AIInEdu

Building Websites with Claude Code Over the past couple of weekends I have built and published five complete websites and a complex interactive page for this site. I had the content already handy, but all of the work of making the websites, and a substantial amount of their deployment, was handled exclusively by Claude Cowork and Claude Code.

Technology Is Actually Pretty Great In Technology is Actually Pretty Great, Leon Furze argues that the problem isn't technology itself but corporate capture of digital life in education. Returning from a hiatus spent finishing his PhD and developing a new course, he reflects on how OpenAI's problems—privacy, sustainability, copyright, labour exploitation—are symptoms of the broader tech industry.

Teaching AI Ethics 2026: Human Labour This is an updated post in the series exploring AI ethics, building on the original 2023 discussion of human labour. Since 2023, the human cost of AI has become one of the most pressing ethical issues in the industry, with major lawsuits, union formation, and investigative journalism bringing the exploitation of workers into public view.

I also haven’t figured out a way to successfully use the “compare” feature. Worth noting that the public website and verify feature really isn’t fully cooked

Correct, and I should clarify that in the article. Google’s synthID is, if anything, worse.

Interesting that Adobe doesn’t preserve the chain given they’ve been one of the most prominent voices

Everything Educators Need to Know About GenAI in 2026 GenAI in education is a sprawling topic, so each January I try to distill it into a single post: what's changed, what's most important, and what you can actually do with the technology. This is 2026's introduction to GenAI: I'll dig deeper into each section throughout the year.
