With games, you have your pick. With cabinets, you get what you get nearby. I’d love an actual arcade cabinet but the weight and size would make it impossible to even make it into my game room.
Arcade1up is light and a tad smaller, which while cheaper, is just more appealing to the consumer market.
Genuinely, calling slow menus a pet peeve is an understatement. If it hinders the usability of the menu, don’t do it. At all.
I don’t hate fancy menus as long as they’re fast. Persona 5 is a prime example of one that’s quite fast while maintaining style. Most of the time tho, function over form plz.
Function above form regarding menus. I am a big fan of pausing pulling up the full menu on frame one, no matter how jank it looks. Nothing frustrates me more than menus that take forever before giving you control. If you have cool animations, let me at control it while the animation is going on.
Just a tip:
I’d avoid the original PS2 release. The Final Mix versions added canon story content, plus gameplay tweaks and the ability to skip cutscenes.
If you have Free McBoot you can play an ENG patch of the JP Final Mix, or you can play HD 1.5 (which supports 4:3 on PS3 if you want that)
Just gave it a replay, it’s definitely aged and admittedly my opinion of KH1 specifically is VERY mixed, but I think it’ll be worth your while, even if you dislike it.
I would love to see the ideas in the game revisited, especially considering the game itself is not one I particularly like. Just replayed it and yeah, there is so much room for the 3-team mechanic to improve.
A game for kids and grown ups!
Hopefully both parties use this as a learning experience to plan ahead and make this stuff a lot more clear from the get-go. We’ve only had one major game since 2018 (Shadow Gens too ig but that takes place pre-comics anyway) so hopefully it’s just this time.

TBF, that dancing minigame is dead simple, so I don’t think the game makes any differentiation between a gamepad and dance mat. They probably just added that to the box because it technically is usable for a minigame TBH. Correct me if I’m wrong tho.

IDW Sonic is largely targeted towards the older end of Sonic fans (younger kids don’t read many comics today, sadly) so they tend to fret a tiny bit less about language.

If you want a genuinely broken fast strumming engine, apparently Warriors of Rock’s is ACTUALLY broken, at least to an extent. FCs of Chemical Warfare rage about it in their desc.

(3/3) I do agree that retro is changing, though not as much as it may look at first. At the end of the day, 2005 and 2025 gamers go to older games for the same reason: simplicity. You get a game and have some fun. Nowadays the simplicity desired is more subtle, but I still do think it plays a part.
(2/3) Beyond the retro “look and feel”, the biggest reason that people stick to older titles nowadays IMO is that they’re totally isolated, offline experiences, no matter the budget. 6th gen games and nearly all 7th gen games don’t try to siphon money out of you after a purchase. They don’t change.
(1/3) I would argue Retro died with analog TV and the rise of a reliance on the internet. In that, the 6th generation is definitely retro IMO, 7th is arguable for either side, and 8th is definitely not retro.
