Billy Liddell scored his 228th and final goal for Liverpool FC on 5 March 1960. He was aged 38 years 55 days. Liverpool beat Stoke 5-1 that day and it was a new LFC hero, Billy's successor, who scored the opener: Sir Roger Hunt.
If only he could play a few more years under Bill Shankly...

Liverpool FC played in Dresden on this day in 1976 and Ray Clemence kept the Reds in the game, saving a penalty from Peter Kotte. LFC won the return leg 2-1 at Anfield and made a step toward winning the UEFA Cup at the end of the season!

His talent-spotting became almost legendary on Merseyside, unearthing some of the game's real giants like Ian Rush, Phil Neal and Alan Hansen and he is fondly remembered at Anfield. Twentyman worked also under Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish before leaving his post after 19 years in 1986.
Pellegrino played full 90 minutes and Morientes was replaced by the birthday boy Antonio Nunez 75 minutes into the game.
In later years he went on to become a President of the Scottish Football Association.
Jerzy Dudek was injured during the game and had to be subbed off, Patrice Luzi replaced him and made his #LFC debut.
