Published Jan. 26, 2026 Updated Jan. 29, 2026 Selamawit Mehari, an Eritrean single mother of three, was starting her day when federal agents showed up at her apartment in St. Paul, Minn., on a recent morning. As her 13-year-old son wailed and her older daughter produced paperwork proving her mother was in the United States lawfully, the agents shackled Ms. Mehari and took her away. "They didn't explain anything," recalled her daughter, Yosan, 21, who described the encounter to The New York Times. "We didn't understand. We had done everything right." The next day, chained at the wrists, waist and ankles, Ms. Mehari, 38, was shuffling up the steps of a plane bound for Texas, tears streaming down her face in the frigid wind.

That aside, I (whatever THAT is) much enjoyed your ekphrastic poetry and appreciate your noodling over appropriation and what makes art art. I (ditto) noodle there too.
I cannot "let [you] know what [I] think" because I have serious doubts about knowing what I think (let alone knowing how to let someone else know).
Second Harvest Heartland has been running six extra emergency food box packing shifts a week to keep up with new local demand for food. This is on top of seventeen normal repacking shifts which have been almost entirely full with Twin City neighbors volunteering to feed their community.

Minnesota still needs your attention
Like 75% of the US Olympic curlers are from Minnesota. A lot of them curl out of two clubs in Saint Paul, one club is in Frogtown, a neighborhood that has been very heavily targeted by ICE. These curlers are good neighbors.
The problem with them choosing this as their primary talking point is that nearly every in Minnesota personally knows someone who has been taken by ICE. And they all had either a spotless criminal record or an entirely non-violent one.
These are lies. They are going to lose. MN will not quit.
