For Visions, I intentionally brought in and selected elements from across Star Wars as a tribute and a thank-you to the many works that supported the series through years that were not easy, leading up to 2020.
Lately, I’ve also been reading Women Who Run With the Wolves.
Together with The Heroine’s Journey: Woman’s Quest for Wholeness, it feels like an important lens for understanding Star Wars after the sequel trilogy.
I bought The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte and have been reading it this week.
It’s wonderful, especially the parts about how Leslye Headland developed the story in its early stages.
It’s such a shame there won’t be a Season 2.

What makes Sakurazaka’s original work so remarkable isn’t just that it was an early example of time-loop storytelling, but the ingenuity of the Gitai’s time strategy—an idea that resembles a modern version control system.

Personally, I see the original novel as a complete work, and I don’t believe the film is necessarily the final form.
It opens on January 9 in Japan, and on January 16 in both the U.S. and China.
I feel the reaction in Japan before release hasn’t been great, perhaps because it’s a reimagined.
And it’s not the kind of movie built around cute girls or Gundam-style mecha visuals that tend to be popular here.
Still, I see those as superficial elements, not what really matters.
