Each has merit; all three have the same issue, though: permissions. Feels like we're still at the "just grant root 🤞" phase of innovation - but that kinda undermines the appeal of having my PDS data be... well... mine

Diff between dev & general audience struck me: "just build things" is an empowered posture with high agency
But the rel between avg users and their apps is much less equitable and (thus) more adversarial
Addressing this will require more subsidiarity (blue, euro, black, etc)
💯 agree - warfighting informs and accelerates tech dev (and has for millennia)
But tech ISN'T magic. Where it gives us power, it does so because it's connected to and bound by something real about our world
Faced with this reality, we can choose to abuse - or redeem - the power it grants us
US mil doctrine (was) "mission command": subordinate autonomy and intent-based leadership
Automation reduces losses, and fighting well means incorporating new tech
Blaming new tech for bad (or nonexistent) policy is scapegoating
We should hold leaders accountable for their decisions instead

It is the name for the last bastion of agency that humans seize when all others are stripped away
Implication: you prevent war by supporting, not eliminating, the agency of others

Over time, I've come to view this as a chicken/egg thing
Once someone (anyone) perceives they have the power to shape history... it breaks them; we can't contextualize the role of our volition at that scale
It follows that the humane thing is to prevent individuals from amassing that kind of power
apropos of nothing, this is what I needed to read right now

I only understand half of what osprey is, and it's one of the most impressive things I've seen recently.
I truly think this is a game changer for moderating content on the atmosphere and is such an amazing thing to have open sourced

Osprey handles ~400 million actions per day in production at Discord. If you run a Discord-sized (or smaller!) platform, you can just… use their rules engine because it’s open source.
