Man this game is extremely charming
I know it's nothing like Stardew Valley really, I just thought I was clever.
The title screen for Pokemon Pokopia
Has anyone called it "Staryu Valley" yet? How about "Cormac McCarthy's Victory Road"?
A limited edition tea towel celebrating twenty years of Home Alone Records.
I started going to Home Alone gigs shortly after moving to Wellington, and I don't think I would have felt as home here so quickly if it weren't for the community I immediately found myself part of. Here's to many more years of great music and great people.
Frances Grass performs outdoors, surrounded by greenery
Lake South and Band perform indoors.
A selfie of Dave, wearing a hat and a shirt with whales on it.
Just after sunset, looking out over a beautiful garden on the slopes of Mount Victoria.
No better way to spend the last day of summer than by celebrating the twentieth birthday of Home Alone Records, the little DIY record label that's behind a staggering amount of my favourite Aotearoa NZ music of the last... well, 20 years I suppose.
4 iran analysis stories on the Stuff home page, only the one about a Kiwi family in the Gulf is not a telegraph reprint.
3 of these 4 stories are reprints from the Telegraph. Outsourcing foreign policy analysis to a paper as nakedly ideological as that - and not informing readers until the END of the analysis - is A Choice that I think reflects poorly on stuff.
Not sure which is tragedy and which is farce
The Dr. Manhattan on Mars meme. "It is 1990. I am 29 years old. In two weeks, Iran will have nuclear weapons. It is 2008. I am 37 years old. In two weeks, Iran will have nuclear weapons. It is 2026. I am 54 years old. In two weeks, Iran will have nuclear weapons."
Second verse, same as the first

STEBAN, THE STUDENT COMMUNIST - “In dark times, should the stars also go out?”
Got a job interview next week, though (which I'm not gonna talk about too much in advance just in case I jinx it).
As the chair of @nzccl.org.nz said,
"We wouldn't give other countries like China or Russia full access into our police and biometrics databases, would we?"
Absolutely disgusting that this is being contemplated, let alone that it might be decided without Parliament.

Anyway, the job market sucks and I sure did pick an especially niche job niche, I'm running down my savings, public transport is expensive so I don't leave the house all that often, and I'm nearly out of coffee... but you know what? I still made the right choice to quit my job.
I mean, I don't really WANT to start a business (I'm perfectly happy operating as a sole trader for now), but it's a matter of principle, y'know.
It's been three months since I left my job, which means my non-compete clause has expired and I can now do whatever the hell I want. It's perverse that my non-compete period is identical to the Work and Income ineligibility stand-down period. Anyway, now I'm free to start a consulting firm.
The "A" stands for "Antarctica"
"Look, what I really think you need right now is a parliamentary engagement consultant to support your interactions with the emperor penguins. Knowledge of parliamentary procedure is quite transferable to the imperial court, I assure you."
I have a new book out today!

Yeah, anyone who writes 2,282 words based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the decision and how it was made is someone that it's not worth reading 2,282 words from.
(To be clear, the letter doesn't say "not eligible until 13 weeks has passed", it just says "not eligible", which seems to be, at best, a specific trap for people who don't understand the system)
A clipping from the Social Security Act 2018.
Got a letter from Work and Income today saying "You chose to quit your job so you're not eligible for Jobseeker Support", so I'm now waiting for a phonecall with them to make clear my displeasure and wave around words like "review of decision" and "I can read legislation, you know" and "ombudsman".
A new tee - I wanted to make something positive for stormy times. I'll take pre-orders up until March 10th and print them after that. Pre-order means it takes a little longer than buying something off the shelf but it'll be custom screenprinted, sent directly from me to you. xtotl.bigcartel.com
Dale Cooper enters the town of Twin Peaks
A cup of black coffee and watch showing Eleven Thirty
Celebrating Twin Peaks Day as David Lynch intended, by drinking some black coffee and being inscrutable.
Ahh, thank you! I hadn't, but now I have done.
FYI I’ve opened this one up for full public reading, listening & sharing after requests from paying subscribers. Their support allows me to do this public interest journalism on Aotearoa’s political economy around housing, climate & poverty in public. #nzpol open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...
