Why the hell is the "what's hot" feed full of halloween pics? What did I miss? Had to check my calendar, thought I was going insane.
That's some good smut right there.
At that moment Jay enters the room, gazes upon the intimate moment Daniel and Paul are sharing, and with a kind, motherly smile, silently takes her phone out and snaps a pic to post to bsky.
stuff like this is why I really enjoy the concept behind objecthash, as it allows you to redact parts of your data without affecting the integrity of your graphs. it does open a bunch of other attack vectors but opens up some nice possibilities.
The cost on the post seems pretty high, it might just be crappy hosting plan. 50 EUR p/m would get you a pretty beefy hetzner box with unlimited bandwidth. If we're talking about just followers being the issue 300k requests per day is not THAT big of an issue for anything not running on a rpi.
The dragon makes the whole wait worth while! You'll know when you see it.
lol, cc @why.bsky.team
The size of a tweet is miniscule compared to bsky. The whole portability/owning-your-data situation really puts a dent to the size of every action you perform due to the various signatures and way the data is structured.
@pfrazee.com quick bug report, on web, search for anything, and while seeing the search results, click the search link on the menu.
Back to the question about how much space does a PDS need; been playing around with indigo's big sky as I was interested in playing around with some feed algos, and at the time of 55k users and 286k posts, the carstore was around 7GB. This is just the raw events but the rest is easier to figure out.
Bluesky improves on this a bit by splitting the responsibilities of the data provider from the "feed"/"algorithm" providers (I forget if they have an official name). This way if you're running a PDS you don't need to keep copies of other PDSes.
Federation in mastodon is only expensive when you want your server to have "popular posts" type of feeds and tags. If you only federate to fetch the posts of the users you follow and their reposts it's pretty tame.
