I'm guessing this is going to take the entire month. I will only work on this a few hours per day, or else I'll go insane. Maybe we can throw in the promised art contest somewhere inbetween, while I'm busy with the migration. Let's get started. Oof.
I'm going to quickly release 0.5.5 now, which will contain the terrain generation for the updated Tropical Valley and the new Rocky Hills biome (pictured above) in their current state. I will then directly start working on 0.6.0, which will be the render pipeline migration.

Now we are pretty much forced to do the migration. But now I also have some actual experience with URP and more time to work. So it is going to be faster and prettier this time. At least I hope so.
If you remember, I already tried to port EE to URP once, back in 2024. This involved reworking all shaders and took almost 2 months. The end result looked pretty bad in places, so the community voted to revert it.
Unity has finally deprecated the render pipeline used by #ElysianEclipse, which means that we have to switch to the Universal Render Pipeline (URP) to continue receiving updates.

The time has come. Usually the big updates like 0.4.0 or 0.5.0 each contained the foundation of a new stage. 0.6.0 is going to be something way less fun though.

The tropical valley, will be the first biome to receive a rework. It will be much bigger and sandier. The mountains are higher and have more natural shapes with visible erosion. Still work in progress. Vegetation is disabled at the moment.

The stat system has been reworked. Health and damage values are now much higher, making them easier to balance without needing decimals. Furthermore age and skill levels now have proper tooltips, letting you see the exact rewards you get.

Time to copy RuneScape's XP rates to torture completionists.
A notification popup of getting 5 fishing experience, after catching a Wiwaxia. The sidebar shows experience bars for different skills. Evolution is at level 20, while Fishing is at level 1 with some progress to level 2.
Instead of having just a single level, your species can now earn experience in different skills! These grant bonuses like permanent stat increases. Reaching new stages will also unlock more skills.

A simple bamboo hut, made in the hut editor. The chimney is selected and the inspector shows a selection of different materials for it. The selected material is marked with a checkmark icon.
The material selector is here! It lets you change the material of the individual regions of hut and plant parts. It even lets you change the leaf shape of foliage. Here, I used it to create a bamboo hut.

- The camera now focuses on the center of the mount, instead of staying on your creature.
- The camera's zoom and rotation range automatically adjusts, so big mounts don't cover too much of your screen.

Before: Hard edges on letters. Titles and buttons use small caps.
Elysian Eclipse now has new fonts! The text is now more stylized and rounded, especially for headings. Small caps have been removed completely to make everything more consistent.

The same system will be used when controlling a space ship in the upcoming prototype.
Also, dismounting has been turned into an ability on the hotbar, so you can trigger it with both the hotkey or the mouse.
A garfield-like creature, riding on a crabfish. Two additonal health and energy meters are shown on the HUD. Mount health has a horse icon, while energy has a carrot icon. The hotbar contains the dash and dismount abilities. The space between them is filled with empty slots.
Mounts now have their own ability hotbars! While riding the crabfish, you can let it perform a spin dash, just like in aquatic stage. Its health and energy are shown too while riding.

A hut with a two-layered thatch roof. The top layer has a triangular window, while the bottom layer has multiple round windows that are partially hidden under the layer above.
The sub-part system has been added to more parts. You can now for example place windows on both layers of this roof and they will be automatically rotated correctly. Previously only the top layer was clickable and you couldn't attach parts to it at all.
